AI'd some cows

AI'd 40 cows for a friend of mine yesterday on a timed AI synchronization protocol. Only took an hour and a half from start to finish. They were pushing them through just as fast as I could get the gun ready! To say my arm was tired towards the end is an understatement. I was still able to grab a cold beer when we were done, however. :lol:

Good job, I may have reached for something a little stronger though.. :drink: that's a lot of critters to do in an hour and a half..

My body generates it on its own. It's called a cramp. Trouble is it extends into the hand and fingers.

Never tried it. Always go in with the left and run the syringe with the right. I would probably relate it to trying to drive from the right side of the car on the left side of the road.

I was taught to manipulate the cervix with the hand that isn;t dominant because it's easier to teach it new motor skills.

I was taught the same, but the reason was that the dominant hand would be better with the fine motoric movements the hand handling the pistolette needs to do.

Bandit..don't know about you but only the left arm and hand in the cow work for me. Put the right on in and can't find anything but "hockey" especially when preg checking.

TB, a couple years ago I was pregging some cows and for some reason put the sleeve on my right arm. Went in and couldn't find anything. Could feel a couple of bumps, but couldn't tell what it was. Took the sleeve off and put a new one on the left arm and had no problems after that.

Bandit, same here. I always felt like I had "eyes" in the fingers of my left hand. Actually close my eyes when I palpate a cow. Like you, the right hand seems to have no feeling whatsoever. But was taught to use the left since I do very little else with it. I suppose my right hand is my "Bud Light" hand. :banana:

What fine movements does it have to do other then depositing the semen. I was taught to not move the gun but feed the reprotract over it. I just stick it in until I can feel it with the other hand then manipulate the cervix/reprotract.

The only fine movements my right hand makes is just that, depositing the semen. I was taught same as you, maipulate the cervix over the gun, not the other way around.

That is the way I was taught also, my left hand goes in the cow and right hand uses the gun. Hubby is right handed as well but does the opposite . Potato/potatoe I have tried it his way and can not even tell what I am feeling.. :roll:

I guess the key is to get them all bred no matter what hand you use.. :lol2:
