With AI you can afford to breed to the best bulls available.

Advantages:
- you can select from a variety of bulls
- you can retain all your heifers if you choose and breed them easily to a straw from a different bull
- precise conception dates so you know (within a 20 day window) when to expect a calf
Disadvantages:
- start up costs (if you choose to AI yourself --> class/school, tank, drugs, heat detection device, etc.)
- depending upon your level (or AI tech's level) of success -- potential costs of multiple attempts
- no nice, large bull to have on the property and scare the snockers out of any "would be" trespessars
- timing issues (if you choose to hire an AI tech without timing the heat cycle the heifer/cow will NEVER be in heat when it's convenient)
