Help Support CattleToday:

63. I live half way between Memphis and Nashville in the garden spot of the USA. My wife and I bought our first 11 cows and 1 bull in 1992 so that means we've supporting these smelly beast for 30 years. We're up to 65 cows and 2 bulls now. I really need to cull back down to about 50. I'm from a large family (8 siblings including me) and were all raised on a farm raising cotton, corn, hogs and cattle and a BIG garden/truck patch. Don't do it if you don't love it.

Tell more about the truck patch please.

I'll share the PG version of one story @Chevy

I can't remember how old I was... lets say 21 😉. We had put this big lift and tires and all kinds of stuff on a friend's F350 his step-dad gave him. We decided that weekend we needed to go out on the town to show it off. Couple of us met up it was kind of a mixed group of guys and girls that hung out a lot at that time. After a short while we decided we needed head south to greener pastures. We grabbed some clothes and refreshments and headed south. I'll never forget going over the big bridge at Corpus... windows down... like 7 people piled in this truck... with Roger Creager's Long Way to Mexico blaring... at like 11pm. That ended up being as far as we made it south. We made the rounds from bars, to the beach, to skinny dipping in a friend's condo pool, and more. Another thing that still sticks in my mind was watching the sun came up on a pier, with all of us laid out on a pile, wearing the same clothes on we started the night in, listening to Corpus Christi Bay by Robert Earl Keen. It was just a total last minute, fly by the seat of your pants, kind of wild weekend that you couldn't have planned if you tried and probably couldn't redo (probably shouldn't redo). 😂

To this day if one of those songs comes on its like going back in time. I can't can't help but roll the window down and crank it up.

So a couple days ago I'm riding with two Border Patrol guys and Long Way to Mexico comes on and I can barely focus. 😄 I'm trying not to sing... and smile... and doing my best to listen still. It's crazy what music can do to you.

On a side note, that guy rolled that truck multiple times the next weekend and was very fortunate to make it out with minor injuries. 😬 Truck was totalled.

You can bet somebody act a fool if my children aren't with me I'm going to hit the honk and throw up number one if I'm in a bad mood. Most the time I'd let it slide and my own business. My honk or finger would change the situation.

From Southeast VA, 35, 7-8 generation farmer (that's as far back as records show probably more) farming the same land my ancestors did 300+ years ago. Guess you could say it runs in our blood. Mainly grow corn, cotton, peanuts, soybeans and wheat on enough land to keep us busy 365 days a year but still find time for the cattle. Run about 85 angus x cows and sell calves through VA Quality assured Tel-O-Auctions source, age, and genetically verified with all the shots. Been AI'ing for 5 years now and already seeing the results pay off. Don't have time to post often but really like reading the comments of others.

I rode bareback broncs in rodeos. I wouldn't even want to begin to tell the stories. But this is a bunch of young men suffering from testosterone poisoning who are climbing on bucking horses and bulls for the fun and money. The wild times were not a weekend thing. It was a way of life for years. Every town we pulled into the party was on and we were the main attraction. It is a wonder that we survived.

Remind me in a week or so. I'll have some free time on my hands hopefully.

I know the feeling... ours was O&G booms though.😄

Hey, Dave, hanging loose and NO FEAR is why bronc riders survive. 😄

Good friend was a bronc rider. When he was a kid his dad (who was also a bronc rider) told his son, "If you can't ride 'em, hang up and thrill the crowd."

I've always enjoyed the rough stock riders humor. Got to spend a little time around them. Talk about a laugh a minute. Hanging around the ropers wasn't much fun at all.

You know what a basement full of team ropers is called? A WHINE cellar. 🤣

I grew up on the lake, I always wanted a horse. We had wheelers, dirt bikes, jets skis, go carts, roller blades, ect. We go play in the woods nature walks in creeks, swimming in the back yard lake, bunch of bad kids, play with all the cousins who lived down the road and neighborhood kids. We walk to all the resorts bought candy and lemonade or tea, pick up random dogs along the way, end up with entire dog packs following. Haha We would rollblade most all summer if we weren't walking some where until dark or just after. We had trampoline with this huge tent that went over it we would have camp outs. Oh ya'll meant cow life...
We would ride 4-wheels, scooters, a golf cart, ect even hike, up to this man's farm that lives couple miles through the woods. He normally wasn't around when he was he would just talk to us. We would look at his chickens, goats, pigs, horses, cows, cats, and dogs. We never messed with anything just looked at his animals. He knew my dad they service in the military together, he always told us we were welcome up there anytime. One silly time my cousin and I talked about milking the cow.... decided that was a horrible idea. Good thing, it wasn't a diary cow nor had a calf. Stop laughing it wasn't a bull either.

I went on a date with my husband, my mom hated him. He had that woooweee bad boy bad #$% don't mess with him attitude.... had the lower cars, lower trucks,... hahaha Few years later we eloped. He turned out not to be a bad boy, my maw likes him more than she likes me. Well played God. I became step mom of the year. Bahahahahahaha. I'm hilarious, considering if you were to ask my step children apparently I was a horrible step mom. Like I told them and their strumpet mother that's okay I'm fine with that. Maybe next life they can have a drug addict step mom or someone that don't care, or maybe they will end up with lots of step children that act just like them or worse. *smiles. I should be nice...
Back to cows...
My husband and I ended up with a bottle calf Larry what in 2007 or 2008. My husband bought the calf. I was supposed to be giving him bottles while my husband was at work. So I did... oh boy did I too!! I was fostering my brother "petbull" at the time. I gave Larry 4 FULL bottles a day during the day!!! He got real big real fast!!! I feel like all I was doing was giving this calf bottle all day. I kept asking my husband are you sure I'm supposed to give him 4 bottles full every few hours??? Being he worked swing shift was a walking zombie most like wasn't listening just answered yes you give him bottles.... not hearing how many or how much. Bahahahahahaha. I kept asking him are you sure it seems like alot. I can't even hardly go to Walmart I'm up feeding this calf all day long. Bahahahahahahaaha!!! When he got some sleep realize I was giving Larry to many bottles he was like NAW that aint right. Hahahahahaa. I could right a book on NAW that's ain't right too. Hahahahaha. Call it my husband agrees... NAW THAT Ain't right later. Hahahahhaha
To be continue....

Did you know Sam Pozzobon? he was a bronc/bull rider, very well known family in this area.. we got our first bull from him (Red angus)... That guy would make a sailor blush, and boy did he have stories
when he delivered our bull, he unloads him and says to my dad "Here's your F*(in' bull"... My dad just says to him.. "He better be"
