If they can go outside then they are fine. Fence line weaning helps but is not necessary. You have to do what you can on your particular property. Some cows and calves will cause a ruckus no matter what. Hope you are getting more sleep now. :D
 
thanks for the advice. they have been on grower nuts every day for the last 3 months (just a taster to get them used to them) and silage bail in feild for the last 3 weeks prior to bringing them in.
 
For a small operation the nose rings may be the absolute ticket.

wean em right beside mama.

when we had fifty cows I put em in and left em for a week and then the next week took the rings out and separated the calves. Still had some bawling but much less.
