I have been feeding some hay. Not much as there is still some pickings where they are. They were barely cleaning up what I gave them and not all of them would come to the feed row. This morning it is raining and looking up at the hill behind the house the snow level is maybe 500 feet the level in the field. Went out with the flake feeder and they all came right over to eat. I guess hay sounded like a good idea to them on this cold raining morning. I maybe should have fed a little more but I gave them about 20 pounds per cow and they still do have a fair amount of picking. I can see full feed coming in a couple days.

Moved the cows to a different field on Thursday morning. They followed the fed truck. I fed the bale I had on. They ran by me like a scalded cat. They ate some of the hay that afternoon but sure didn't clean it up. I didn't feed them on Friday but half a bale on Saturday. They ate more but still didn't clean it up. Sunday they got the other half of that bale. As I was pulling away I saw about half were eating and half just standing around. Drove to the barn and they all followed me. I saw some eating out there later but never went to check. This morning there was 1 1/2 inch of snow and still snowing. I thought about 3/4 of a bale. Started feeding and they were pretty interested in eat. So I went ahead and fed a full bale. 4 hours later they were all still right on that feed row. It is 300-400 yards from the house so I never checked to see if they were cleaning it up but as much time as they spent there my guess is they ate it all. Just need a little weather to convince them to eat.
