I would like to ask what a good amount of land would be to start a small cow operation.

Where at?
How many cows do you want to start with?
Will you expand in the future?
Hobby or business?
ect. ect. ect.

In south carolina, between charleston and columbia, i want to start with about 10 cows, mainly as a hobby but probley a business later on.

Over here in Louisiana it's a cow, calf per acre. I suppose more would be better . That's if proper land management is practiced.

Over here in California if its dry ground w/ decent feed we'll go 1 pair for every 10 acres. If it's irrigated ground w/ decent pasture we'll go 1 pair per acre.

I talked to a farm just down the road today and he gets about a cow,calf an acre and only feed them hay in the winter. He raises limousines, that's probley what i will raise.
