We weaned the calves on the 31st of October and are going to put the bull in with the heifers sometime this week for 2017 fall calves. As a group, we were extremely happy with this set of spring calves. We retained seven heifers this year in order to continue to expand our herd numbers. We hope to get up to 60 or 65 pairs in the next handful of years. We also are keeping one of the bull calves to use as a heifer bull next year.

This bull, BB Uncle Tony, has been our primary herd bull for the past 3 years. He is purebred Murray Grey and will be 5 years old next March. He will be the sire of 21 of our calves next spring. The other seven calves will be AI sired.

This is the young bull that we are retaining to use over heifers. He was born on March 14, 2016 and was 78 lbs at birth. He is pictured at 8 1/2 months. His dam is almost 11 years old and is still going strong. She is bred back and will calve in the spring of 2017. His sire is BB Uncle Tony.

This bull is also a Tony son, but is 75% Murray Grey x 25% Angus. He too is 8 1/2 months old. He was born on March 16th at 70 lbs. The photo doesn't show it too well, but he has a really nice back end.

These two heifers are both daughters of Tony and are pictured at 7 1/2 months of age. We are retaining both of them. These two were my favorite heifers of the 2016 calf crop.

We will be breeding 9 heifers this fall to calve in the fall of 2017. As a group, this is the nicest set that we have bred so far. These heifers were born in the spring of 2015, but I think that the 2016-born heifers will be comparable to this group of females. The first heifer is a full sibling to BB Geronimo. The heifer in the second photo is her half sibling, also sired by Tony. The heifer in the last photo is sired by Cadella Park Golden Boy. She was the first heifer to be registered out of him in about 20 years.

Feel free to pick them apart. Some of them could be better in the back end, but that is a trait that we are working on improving.

I love it when a bull puts a stamp on his calves that you can plainly see
