My NH 848 needs apron chains. I was going to buy a set from Shoup and put new bearings in all the idlers. Someone told me if the idlers were not smooth that they would have to be replaced. Well all the idlers show indentions were the chain has rode on them. If I have to put all new idlers on it it will be more than the chains. What is a acceptable amount of wear on these idlers?

We just put bearings in them when we need to on our 848.
Do you know were a junk N/H 848 is???
We need a 3 groove pulley bad.

Sure don't, mine needs apron chains and a guy told me today that I should replace all the idlers when installing new chains. That would be over a $1,000 just in bearings and idlers plus about $700 for chains. Don't know if I want to put that much in it. Would like to have a little larger bale but can't really justify a new baler.

We run an 855 chain baler for years & never worried about the idlers; our dealer suggested having them lathed to a common diameter to take out the ridges but we never bothered. That was a tough machine & put through 20-30,000 bales & still has life left!
