Aaron and others in the north?

Help Support CattleToday:

We are expecting major cold Wed & Thurs. It was -6 this morning.
Don't do anything other than make sure they have plenty of hay. If it was muddy, just getting frozen, I would put bales out for them to eat/lay on. But, as long as we have snow (10" +), that is all the bedding they need. It is a warm bed, they snuggle right down into it.
My calves have 3-sided sheds to get into, which I put a dry bale for them to eat & we bed with it. Newborns sometimes take a few days to figure it out. We "tuck" them in, but Mom stands at the fenceline & bawls them out. If it gets windy, the newbies learn real quick.
