November 5th, 3:00 in the morning, I hear a tap tap tap that only a flashlight on a steel door can make . I jump up and look out the window and see at least 6 cruisers out on the road, it looked like a murder scene . My first thought was how many people had been hurt or how many cars had been damaged , So I ran out and saw 6 deputies bringing about 50 steers up the drive way . I had neglected to grab my flashlight, so I just ran ahead in the dark to open the gate . Well one of the boys that helps me had left a metal feed trough in front of the gate and I ran into it, worked out so that my knee stopped and the rest of me continued on. I felt a terrible pull in the back of my leg, I'd had a pulled hamstring before so I knew the feeling . After we got the cattle in I went in and laid face down on the bed with ice on it, my wife called the doctor and made an appointment . When it came time to go to the doctor I told her I wasn't going that I would just die there, so she called my brother and he came to take me to the hospital . The doctor at the hospital looked at it and said I had compartment snydrome and they would have to operate to drain the fluid . They made a 9 inch cut down the side of my leg and left it open for a day and a half so it could drain, then they sewed it up and sent me home . It did heal quickly, within a few days I was walking around and by 10 days I was back outside ( on light duty) and today I can't tell it ever happened, except for that big scar . So just another fine example of my careless ways .
