Seeing as how the most profitable cattle operation you can have, guaranteeing 100% of the calf crop to bring CAB premium prices is to breed homo for black and polled Hereford bulls to Corriente cows, is it better to raise your own Corriente replacement heifers, or buy them off of Craig's List?!! I say buy them either open, or bred AI with sexed for female Corriente semen! Let the debate begin!!!

I dont think there is any way in Haties you can get 10% CAB from that cross much less 100%.

Well, let's do some figuring. Looking on a couple of FB groups about Corriente cattle, a solid colored cow or heifer is going to be around $1100 to $1500. Buy her, and you don't lose a year having a $1500+ calf to sell. Now, if you hold one of yours to breed to a Corriente to get a replacement, it will be two years before that one could have that $1500 calf. And when the ban gets lifted, they should get a little cheaper. I hear there are no inputs for them, and no calving problems, or calf abandonment problems either way. So, my thinking is that it is like all other cattle. You can buy them cheaper than you can raise them. And the price should correct back down on them when the ban on Mexican cattle is lifted.

Unless your fighting coyotes with them they are best left in Mexico.
Come to think of it, I don't recall any of the people on here that have them, talking about losses to coyotes. Or black buzzards, either. I don't know. because we don't have those kind of buzzards down here, and the coyotes don't bother the cows, I have never had a Corriente cow or calf either. We just all keep 3 or 4 steers to take to practice nights or to jackpot ropings.

Best to let your neighbor own them and make all of the money.
Actually I'm hoping some of our neighbors don't get that idea. We're already dealing with various neighbors with Jersey bulls and stockyards special bulls.
And we, more often than desirable get the apparent privilege of dealing with them.

I have a friend who use to have a lot of Corriente. But he makes his living putting on jackpot team ropings. Last winter the roping steers got to be too expensive so he sold all of his and started using beef calves to put on muley ropings. When his Correintes were done they were basically worthless. The beef calves have gained some weight and increase in value.

I wish Fence was here. Did anyone ever figure out what happened to him?
He got banned. I believe the mod used the excuse that Fence threatened someone. Not a threat like we've seen since by members who saw no consequences, but that's how it goes when mods run amok. Would be great to have him back.

I thought bans were temporary. Thirty days or something? I've been denied posting privileges on the daily chuckle thread because I found something funny, but I've also seen other posts that were similar get by with no consequences. I wouldn't want to be a moderator. The lines must be pretty fine.
