A little while ago several of our members shared poems that they wrote. My aren't we a literary bunch. I thought I would share a poem I wrote a couple of years ago for my grandsons. For Will and Porter Come and sit on my lap While we listen to the crickets And the frogs And tell stories Of pirates and cowboys About fish we caught And adventures we will have Lay back with me on the grassy hill And listen to the song of the stars And the lullaby of the man in the moon We will watch the sun setting And the fireflies flitting And feel the night Hold my hand And tell me about your day And I will tell of my life I will show you how To find birds nests And how to whittle a stick And how to talk to girls Teach me to be a boy again And I will show you how to be a man I will remind you not to spit In front of a lady And teach you words you can’t use Around your parents And songs to sing with your buddies About bowlegged women And 15 men on a dead mans chest And all the timeless hymns Share your gum with me And I will teach you about Brown Mule Tobaccy, Just as I learned So many years ago From grand fathers long gone. I will listen to your problems And share your joys And your heart breaks too You will be my best friend And I will be your pal And call you kid You will make me young again And I will try to make Growing up a little more fun When you find the one You will love forever I will tell you all I know About women It won’t take long And make it all right With your mamma And grand mamma That there is another Beautiful woman in your life When you upset your Dad I will remind him that He was a boy once And did a lot of growing I am there when you need me And all I ask Is that you sit on my lap And listen to the crickets And the frogs And tell stories Of pirates and cowboys About fish we caught And adventures we will have
