There is a bred heifer sale near me on Jan.9 (110 heifers) all AI'd. Anyway, without researching it what is y'all's opinion on these two sires (878 Express & Bando)?

I don't find an Angus bull named "878 Express" in the Sire Summary. And there are about a bizillion Angus bulls with the word "Bando" in their name. So registration #s would help.

"878 Express" is probably a Bon View New Design 878 son raised by Express Ranch (prefix Exar) ~near Frankie.

They aren't listing anything like that as one of THEIR herd sires:

The Angus site is acting up today so I can't narrow it down through the data search.

Frankie is right. Bando has been used so long in Angus I have no idea where too begin.

I would hazard a guess as it is bred heifers the Bando sire is likely to be LT 598 Bando 9074, a genex bull, another possibility is Bando 1961, both are sons of Bando 5175 who is likely to be confirmed as a Fawn Calf Syndrome carrier.

Help me out please. I've heard of the curly calf syndrome which 1680 is a carrier but I'm not familiar with the Fawn Calf Syndrome. Would you elaborate, please. Thanks

Yep that is the biggest fear- and the reason I'm staying away from anything with 598 breeding in its background....The Australians have confirmed that Bando 598 is a genetic carrier (altho the US association that stuck its head in the sand for years has not, yet)...

wtrapp- do a google search- or search on this site and you can find loads of info on Fawn Calf Syndrome- which has now been identified as a genetic defect in some cattle...
The message board at this site http://www.advantagecattle.com/ probably has the most info- including the latest from the Australian Vets....

Here is a long- but thourogh thred:
