856 IH Tractor

I have found a nice 856 IH , are they good , bad . What about parts? I drove them many years ago when they were new but can,t remember the if they gave any problems.

The 856 we had years ago was probably the best tractor we ever owned. IMO-That particular diesel engine is one of the most durable. If I were in the market for a tractor that size, I would strongly consider an 856.

Don't recall the German engine in the 856. I believe it was in the 706 & possibly 756. A neighbor had a 706 with the german engine. Our 856 had an IH 407ci engine.

Very true Texas Paw Paw. I wasn't sure if the 856 got the german or not. We have a 706 wide front and 756 tricycle with the german engines. Both good running and powerful tractors.
