BEAN STATION, Tenn. (WATE) — The Grainger County Sheriff's Office is investigating after 80,000 of beef was stolen from a meat processing facility near Bean Station.

According to an incident report by the sheriff's office, the investigation into the theft of tens of thousands of pounds of beef from Southeastern Provision, LLC, began on Tuesday, March 25.

The report said that an officer spoke with the shipping manager, who said that at least two of the facility's customers had not received their shipments of meat. The two loads, which were intended to go to Kentucky and Michigan, were picked up by a subcontracted company called "List Trucking Sales."

Investigators wrote that information provided by List Trucking Sales appeared to be false and could not be verified. The company that Southeastern Provisions contracted through for their shipments attempted to contact List Trucking Sales, but they did not get a response. Their dispatcher stopped responding. Identification for the drivers and List Trucking Sales was not verified at the time the beef was loaded.

In total, the two shipments contained 80,000 pounds of beef worth $350,000.

IMO this sounds like an inside job or at least someone there helped out.

I heard it on the radio this morning.

Not necessarily, it is very common for a Logistics Company to sub out their loads when they don't have a truck available to cover it, in fact there are websites that list available loads. My daughter works in the Logistics Industry, and she has seen it happen. The crooks bid the job, show up, get loaded and drive off. The one ultimately responsible is the logistics company that booked the load for not doing their due dilligence.

With that said, it is not above the owner of Southeastern to pull some shady stuff.

I heard in February they were scared of an "ICE RAID" again. Also heard then from sons' in-laws that a big cow buyer at Kenny's market wasn't getting paid, but they were paying some smaller folks. I have a couple cows before long I would like to take there but will I get paid?

How do you get rid of 80k of meat? Seems like stealing it would be crazy. You better have a massive freezer and or people to pass it on to. Pretty sure someone in the chain would have loose lips.
You would be amazed at what is stolen and then shipped to China. Those trucks drive it to the West Coast then onto a ship and it's gone.

Any news? $350 000 off of there cash flow would hurt there ability to buy cattle. Could they be trying to scam there insurance?
I was told they have already been paid. Smells pretty fishy to me.
I wont give all my opinion but notice that several days before this happened i was told i shouldn't send any cows there last week. Plus they already owed one cow buyer $200,000.

Take them to a processor that's on "vacation" for the public, but still sells meat year round. It also occurs that the Amish or some other tight-knit group might have freezers. They wouldn't even have to "know" it was stolen.

I spoke to my daughter today. She said that the Trucking Company that was booking the loads for Southeastern used a broker that would have set off alarm bells at her company. Her exact words were, "There is no way in hell that we would have let that broker take those loads." It is pretty big news in her industry, and we have a lot of trucking in this area.

Too many coincidences surrounding that community/group of people.

I drove by a few months back and they've sure closed everything in. Can't see anything anymore. Been a few years tho since I had been thru there.
They have done some remodeling. I remember taking some cattle there a few years ago and going over and looking at the old rusty .22 that had killed thousands of cattle. Before I left a guy went over to the cattle lineup and put a round in the head of what seemed like 20 cows for the next round of processing. The gut wagon was right in front of me with a loader bringing the remains to go for dog food. There was cow heads laying everywhere. That place is still bad, but not as bad. I was there last year, and they had two tractor trailer loads (both decks loaded) of young Holstein cows out of Kentucky unloading cause the farmer could no longer afford to feed them. That made me very sad killing those young good cows.

I was saddened my last visit as well. Everything was emaciated. Just flat out heart breaking.
