feeding hay and 14% textra.. twice a day.. for the last 3-4 months.. just 2 days ago.. cow has diarrea.. i cleaned the stall out.. clean and refreshed the water buckets..
had diaherria for the last 2 days.. any idea's of treating..
the hay is green.. so i pulled from stall and plan on feeding
just grain.. can i give kaopectate or any other home remeney..
his nose is not wet .. so I assuming no fever..
he seems to be perky.. up and about..
any ideas before i call a vet ??

thanx, keith

I think I would have pulled the grain and kept the hay instead but maybe you are worried about an ulcer?

Kaopectate can be given to help the ph balance he could have acidosis.

Sorry that's all I have, but never assume take his temp.

Number 1...call the vet.

Number 2...feed dry, dry, dry grassy type hay...no green stuff.

Number 3...Probios...push the probios!

In fact, maybe number 3 should be number 2...

All advice sounds good here. I might add worming him with safe-gard if that has not been done recently.

Whatever you do, DON'T feed just grain. Calf MUST have roughage or you're going to have the worst case of acidosis you've ever seen. Stemmy alfalfa or grass hay would be ideal, and pull him off grain for a few days.

Just how loose is the plop....if it stays in a patty, I wouldn't worry...really watery then get the animal to the vet.
Any change in feed, pasture, odd looking bale?
Really got to watch out for the grain....the animal needs to grow the bacteria to digest it...feed in small anounts at first.
