Fir the life of me I can;t remember which way is supposed to be the right interchangability. Is it 223 rem in 5.6X45 chamber or vice versa.

I'm picking up a bushmaster this weekend that is chambered 223 and 556 but I'm certainly not an expert.
There is a slight difference in the 2 chambersand I think the 5.6 has a longer leade then the 223. When you pick it up please ask them about it.

The 5.56 Nato has a longer throat and is loaded for higher pressure than the 223.

That's what I had thought but I haven;t messed with either of them in 20 years so wasn;t sure.

That's it. Many of the 223's will take the 5.56 but they suggest that you check with the manufacturer to be sure its built for the pressure. I know a Bushmaster will as most of the other black guns I've seen but I'm sure there are exceptions.

What cal said, plus if I'm not mistaken most Nato's are twisted for heavier bullets. 1 in 9 I think.
