Here is our son's first 4-H steer. We picked him more for his temprament, than looks, but I think he is a decent fellow. And, I think we made a fairly good choice, he'd rather lay down in the show ring than run away ;-) He is Hereford x Shorthorn. The regional show is this weekend, so we will see how we do.

At about 6 months old

Before the major clip job (he's about 16 months old here)

You got two "animals" to be proud of.

Excellent cross - that steer will likely carcass out real nice.

Got a start and finish weight?

Have fun and good luck!

Thanks Bez. He weighed in at 695 on December 3, and 1235 on June 4.

The perfect calf for a first year kid! He is really cute, and looks like he really fed well.

i really like the steer and you have done a great job but to make him look a little better take a rice root brush and brush that hair foward and it will make him look much nicer

good luck

Good calf, and most of all your son looks like he's having a ball, that's what it's all about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck

Thanks for everyone's comments. Richburg, thanks for the tip, we can use all we can get. It is our first year doing this. The clip job was assisted by an older 4-H kid, which was nice since we don't know much about how to clip.
