I'm looking at a CaseIH LB434 with around 17000 bales with a single axle for 60K. What is the good, bad and ugly about this model baler.

I have a Hesston 3 X 3 baler that I did custom baling for several years. at that time, Hesston and Case were the same baler just with different paint and stickers. the big advantage of these balers are the knotting systems vs the original JD and new holland designs . generally you should figure on getting about 50,000 bales through them before major mechanical problems start. options on the baler may make a difference on the value and pricing. accumulator would probably be the most expensive option. I am not familiar with that specific model so not sure what options are standard or available. I personally prefer the single axle because you don't scuff the fields up when making tight turns at the end of windrows. are you buying from a dealer or private seller? If from a dealer, I always try to find out who the previous owner was to contact him/her to get a background on miss ties or mechanical problems which should be minimal with only 17,000 bales. $60,000 for a good used 3 X 4 sounds reasonable to me. I do know that some custom balers will make the bale counter disabled when they do their own baling to keep the bale count down on the baler so be aware of that. it is easy to do on my baler but newer balers may be more complicated. good luck.

For that price it is supposed to be field ready. I'm not 100% sure but the guy that traded it was getting a new baler. He was baling with it just this week. I'm thinking of offering them 50K for it, with the hopes of getting it around 55K.

Well I went and done it, I am not the proud owner of a CaseIH LB434 baler. 56K if they run it though their shop first. I decided not to have them go though it until this winter, My investment will be 51K. No need in financing anymore than I need. I think it should be in pretty good shape as it just came out of the field this week. The previous owner bought a brand new one.

Not sure what I am going to do with my old Krone, maybe see if All States Ag Parts will want to buy it. If push come to shove I can always sell it on Big Iron.

That front step hasn't been customized very long. My first order of business would be getting it away from that windguard and seeing if there is any other damage.
