So I decided to go ahead with this. I just finished finished making this and it seems to work well so far.

I have a bale spear frame with a 2" receiver tube underneath and a 2 5/16" ball on top behind the top link. I've used it a few times to move an empty or partially loaded stock trailer.
I only use when I have to. You get a good bit of sway even with stabilizer links and the tractor weighs in at 10,000 to 11,000. Not hard to get more behind you than you have weight of tractor with no trailer brakes. I suppose you could add a brake control to the tractor and use it manually but that still isn't foolproof.
Like I said, only use mine in emergencies. Not recommending it. Just saying what I have done.

Am thinking of making something similar to this to do a gooseneck if I need to. Anybody ever use these?
