This cow was always leaking milk.. she was well behaved and I hand milked her a lot, and we made lots of yogurt... My bull Hector was her brother
Calf didn't know what hunger was, he's just playing with his food here

You can have anything over a couple inches of snow... I like just enough to make things bright, with the full moon recently it's like daylight at night

I like a minimum of 6" to 1'. Gives the cows a nice bed to lay in. Much warmer for them than the frozen (or mud like now) ground.

6 weeks old already, she's looking pretty good, and since her whole family are great producers, she'll probably be a replacement!

she should have a playmate in 3 weeks.. she really badly needs some company of her species and size

We had 14 calves born in 12 days, so they all had lots of playmates. I know that is not a lot of calves at one time for the BIG ranches, but that's a lot for our system. We are in a lull right now.

Ken - YES - we were -12 a few nights in a row with wind howling. Calves are born in pens - unless I screw up and bring the wrong ones in!!! But, the barn is just as cold as outside - just no wind and decent wood chip bedding - and I do keep an eye on them with cameras.
