Wal-Mart USDA No. 1 Choice beef.

Some stores do it some do not but its perfectly legal to add things to the meat to help keep its color. Some places use embalming fluid to do this. All the preservatives in food today proves one thing. That the embalming process when we die is a money racket. We are already so well preserved...

    update

I just thought I would give an update since I have some time to breathe. What was going to be a slow process of clearing land turned into a rush last fall and this winter but I now have all of my land cleared, fertilized and planted. Getting good rains and grass is growing great. I know it...

    What would you do?

What would you do if you have been giving permission to use 500 acres of land? I am new and this year has been my first calving season and I want to go slow so not going to get more cattle for this land. But I have more than enough land for all the hay I need already. This 500 acres is my...

    local markets

I have been spending time at the markets lately to see the going on's and to learn. The markets were also nice enough to give me copies of sales reports for the past year or so. What I have learned is they love blacks and smokes. The smokes even do better than the BWF and sometimes just as...

    Has anybody ever

This is a topic that people should just let drop because now it is getting beyond being childish and stupid. Why keep it going unless its to seek attention?

    Thanks USDA

Sorry for my ignorance. I assumed insurance would cover extreme heat and drughts the same way it covers crop loss do to droughts, floods, and other natural disassters. Hard to believe a drough and heat killing crops is covered while livestock isnt. these events have the same cause and effect...

    Thanks USDA

Sorry to hear about your loss. And that amount of money isnt even a scratch to cover the amount lost. Things like this is yet another reason to carry insurance. Just like for crops because you never know what will happen and when it will happen.

    cattle prices

I have been reading some market reports over the past few months and it seems the blacks really out sale anything else around here. .20 to .25 cents more per pound. While I under stand this with the way the markets are I dont understand why cattle considered "exotics" are getting at least 10...

    What do you think

More like any cow colored black who has an ancient ancester that was an angus is what you see on the menus. A marketing ploy done right is what it is. Angus people just thought of it first and it paid off huge. I think I will use a Hereford < like them more than angus lol > on my...

    What do you think

About this plan. As I stated before I have got my start with some bred braunvieh cows and a bull. I have been thinking of building up a herd of Braunveih cows crossing them with a hereford bull to get some F1s and then breeding those to a Black Angus. Granted it will take some years to get...

    Have my start

I have owned some feeder calves before. Buy in spring sell in the fall. Usually around 30 head. I did this to get some practice and to start learning. I took the last two years getting fences built, fields ferterlized and planted, barn built and lots of other odds and ends. I am going to...

    Have my start

As I stated in another thread I was looking at some Braunvieh cattle and I took your guys advice about having them preg tested. All 9 are bred and expecting to calve in March/ early April. I managed to get them for 875 each plus work on the mans barn roof which took me a whole two hours. I...

    angus/hereford

If F1s are not good for breeding back to angus What was the point of creating bradfords or brangus? Still two breeds just bred to a 5/8 3/8. Seems that theory could be applied to any two breeds to get the same 5/8 3/8 cross. Maybe not with no English breeds but any english breed and...

    need some expert advice

Well fellas I took your guys advice and talked the the gentleman about the 9 Braunvieh cows. He is happy to have them preg tested and is having it done Monday or Tuesday and invited me up to be there and to get to know the Vet he uses. The vet actually lives closer to me than he does to him...

    angus/hereford

I was just wondering why most people use angus cows and use a hereford bull ? Why not the other way around? Hereford cows and an Angus bull ? I am sure either way is a good cross but why does it seem most people use the angus cows?
