    Large Animal Vets are gone

Been like that for 15 years here. We have a vet 90mi away that is willing to at least sell us meds and offer some advise on the phone. He drives thru once a year to keep established with all of us to keep the DEA or whoever happy with the medications. Having said that we never paid the vet to...

    Lutalyse for retained placenta

I have one cow who has retained hers for 5 to 7 days every year she's calved. I'd ship her but she breeds back first cycle and weans a good calf. I figure if it hasn't caused a problem in the last 10 calves, it probably won't for her last few. Haha

    Robbed blind...

We have one grocery store in town that is only used in case of emergency. Last week they had visibly moldy and half liquid cucumbers on special for $4.99 a piece, or 6 month outdated Kraft MacNCheese on special for 1cent less than current boxes, but still $2 more that the "big city". Needless to...

My TSC has nuts, bolt, and washer all by the pound. Same price for all of it...

    Robbed blind...

TSC is the closest source of anything farm related. For mineral they are comparable to any other place I've checked and they are 70+ miles closer. They also have no problem ordering me a pallet and loading it on the truck.

    Feed Through Fly Control.

Used to feed mineral with IGR. Helped a little with the flies, but seemed to kill off my dung Beatles and also I noticed less earthworm activity. Have since quit using it and my dung Beatles and worm activity are much more "normal". I've talked to others with the same observations, and also...

    Robbed blind...

I buy mineral at TSC because they're 50 miles away where we grocery shop and go conduct most other business. Next closest "feed store" is 120+ miles away in the opposite direction and sells the same thing for the same price or more.

    Cow Calf Feeding?

Native grass hay, if they can't hack it on that down the road they go.

    Big black angus bull

I run the bulls into the chute and "catch" their head then close the back gate. Because of their neck size the headgate won't hold them from going backwards (that's what the back gate is for), but it keeps them from going forward. Allows us to vaccinate, fly tag, BSE, and doctor as needed.

    Dart guns

I use a Cap-Chur .22 dart gun and have no complaints.

    Dart guns

I still have a hundred or more of the brass charges left. In an ideal world I'll never need all of them. Haha

    Dart guns

I've had the rubber plug last 2 shots and some last 15+ shots. The charges push thru the rubber plug eventually.

    Fly Control Feed

I have much better results with fly tags, pour on, rubs, and spray. My dung Beatles have finially returned now that I quit using Purina W&R fly control mineral about 4 years ago now.

    Dart guns

The reusable darts for the Cap-Chur still have a 1 time use charge inside and also a rubber piece that holds the charge that typically last 1-5 uses. As for the darts falling out quickly it all depends. Some fall out after a few seconds others its half an hour later. And at the cost of the...

So what is the best dart rifle?

I have a Cap Chur .22 powered one. Does what it's supposed to when it's called upon.

Your Opportunity to Chime in on Greg Judy's Methods

I lease 700 or so acres of land. NOT 1 of those acres is fenced and ZERO of the landowners have any desires to let livestock on that land even if I fenced it. Their thoughts are making hay your in and out in a week. Livestock is a season long enterprise they don't want. I wish I could rent...

Your Opportunity to Chime in on Greg Judy's Methods

I've done the daily/ ever other day moves grazing with a hot wire and with our grass it definitely increase forage utilization and also allows be to graze more AU on the land. Why I quit doing it is a time thing. 2 kids, hay to make, AirBnB house to manage, equipment to fix, lawns to mow, and...

    Another fly control thread

Trouble with barn swallows is they nest under the leans-tos on the shop and then crap on everything. Gets so concentrated and bad that it will eat the paint off equipment. I spend a few minutes everyday knocking down the swallow nests under the shop and in the building where my working...

    Another fly control thread

IGR may not hurt dung Beatles but it stopped all earth worm activity in my manure pies. Without worms and fly larve the birds had no reason to touch the manure and break it down. I honestly had 2 year old manure patties that you could pickup like potatoes chips. I was having to drag pastures to...
