    Full French Charolais

We did. Got some pretty good calves from him. But his back feet grew crazy, which the breeder made good on. Then the bull I picked to replace him didn't pass his Semen test....so we got a different bull. Which I think is a pretty good bull. Not the greatest photos...but they're all I have at...

    Pretty Good Run Of It

We sold an old lady this fall, she would have been 17 in the spring. Bought her as a calf out of the Stockyards, black baldy, probably Hereford x Angus. We only have 2 heifers out of her, and one is her last calf. Those old girl have a space in your heart.

    Replacement Heifers

For the Brown, it's quite unlikely, I know the place she comes from. Lots of Longhorn, Angus and Char. But no dairy. And the black, she looks to be Shorthorn cross, could be Maine, too. But the other calf out of that pair, made me think it could be Simmental. Regardless, @650+ lbs, those 2 cows...

    Replacement Heifers

At least around here, the breeders have done a good job. We have not bought any bulls from Lehmans, so far. We did tour his herd this past summer though, and were pretty impressed. So it quite likely we will in the future. We aren't too far from Muridale, so we buy some from them, and there's...

    A few of the Herdsires

I don't think he quite lives up to his EPDs. We see a pretty good difference. Last year all our Char bulls averaged 636 lbs on 205 day adjusted wt. The 2 Angus bulls were 567 lbs, The bull in the photo was 582 lbs. Our Shorthorn bull was 628 lbs Keep in mind that we breed our very best...

    Replacement Heifers

We rarely have issues with udders. I haven't milked a cow down in years, and don't think ever with any of my Shorthorns. We don't run too many pure Shorthorn. The red/blue roans get docked, as well as any spots. But cross with Char, and the buyers just snap them up, regardless of spots or roans.

    Replacement Heifers

I love that roans, she's a good one. Her sister raised a 660 lb calf as a heifer this year too. I know where the bridle comes from, quite sure she's got some longhorns going on.

    Replacement Heifers

Here's some of the girls we kept this fall. They're growing up quite well I think.... Shorthorn x Angus Shorthorn Shorthorn sired, out of a mostly Angus dam. A little Hereford and Gelbveih in her too. Mostly Angus Shorthorn sire x Shorthorn/Angus Mostly Angus Also mostly Angus(by...

    A few of the Herdsires

Here's a few of our herdsires. The Char bulls are terminal sires only. For replacements we run Red Angus and Shorthorn bulls. http://bmmi.cgenregistry.ca/cca/Anilk.a ... y/V6fCqA== http://bmmi.cgenregistry.ca/cca/Anilk.a ... 3rNfGZBQ== http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i ... 9=5D5E5C5E

    Char Influence

We've had a few tan and silver roans, but most of our cows are solid coloured so we don't get many.

    Char Influence

Yes, a lot of our cows are 50% or more Shorthorn The lead one is out of a 50% SS XAN cow. Not sure f the back one. Same for this guy Mother is Shorthorn x, not sure how much though

    Char Influence

Two years ago, our tan steers brought $100 more than the same weight reds, blacks were behind that. Last year we saw $50 more. Probably close to the same this year.

    Char Influence

I'll have to look it up, but I would think in that 575 range at the same age. Last year, the same bunch of calves at the same sale time were around 625.

    Char Influence

From what I've read about it, is that the rat tail come from Simmental and Gelbveih genetics. So far, we haven't had one.

    Char Influence

About 4 years ago, I finally talked my husband into adding some Char bulls to the bull pen. The cow herd consists of red and black Angus, Shorthorn and Hereford mixed cows. We've seen an increase in weaning weights, and a premium of $50 -$100/ calf on the tans and silvers over the reds and...
