    Beef-master x F1-Brahma cross

What I don't get is 1/4 Herf 1/4 SH 1/2 Brahman bred to 1/2 Herf 1/2 Brahman has no positive only negative from the SH color gene. You end up with a 50%Brahman 44% Herf 6% SH. Put an Angus or Herf bull on those F1 and you have a winner. Worst cross I ever had was Limm Brahman absolutely nuts...

    Beef-master x F1-Brahma cross

Yea but what for? You're breeding half Brimmer to half Brimmer. I would rather have the F1 than the BM with the SH color gene that doesn’t play by the rules.

Post a pic of your bull

This cattle business is pretty simple, grass in front of the cow, bull behind.

    Homozygous black?

Not if she has Char in her. I have some that color and you get a black calf about half the time. That Char color gene doesn't play by the rules. Every one of these calves is out of a homozygous black bull. SH, LH and Char don’t play by color rules, African horn gene doesn’t play by polled rules.

Some New Girls...with Just a Touch of Ear

To build on what Brute said you need to use a good English bull on them. The Gerts will handle the cold just fine. Most American Brahman will hair over fine as

Some New Girls...with Just a Touch of Ear

Just wait till calves hit the ground! They will mash the scales come weaning. You're going to be amazed at the extra pounds they bring . I don’t think that bunch will work for you, I can pick them up after the holidays.

    Changing herds?

Wrong again the Brangus and Branford's were created standardized composite to fill a need. LSU created Brangus to help cattlemen in southern climates to produce better cattle in an environment where English and Continental cattle couldn't thrive due to heat and parasites. They needed something...

    Changing herds?

Not really they bring nothing to the table. You gained virtually nothing with the English English composite. You have lost the hybrid vigor of Brahman/English or Continental cross Just like you lost the Continental/ English cross. The only cross worse is Angus/ Shorthorn and that's just science...

    Changing herds?

There are no black Herefords that’s snake oil . The AHA doesn’t recognize them.

    Changing herds?

Is it an upgrade? That would be the opposite direction I would head. consistencies in the calf crop are all that matter. I would looking for a better cow that brings longevity.

    Santa Gertrudis x Braford.

Uncle used to run 250 head of gerts , I still have anger issues over dealing with that breed in my youth. One head fly up the other 249 were to follow and be white eyed! The only thing that stopped them from being carnivorous was no top teeth.
