    So how old are you?

I'm going to have to remember that one. They say what goes around comes around - I used to tease my dad about being the great bald eagle...chrome dome etc... He used to reply that there are only so many perfect heads, the rest the good Lord covered with hair, and that if I wanted waste my...

    Favorite breed poll

Fair enough, and I agree with you. Derivatives probably wasn't the most accurate word to use, but most people draw a distinction between the blacks, red, lowlines etc... that's why I specified red, because I don't care for black, even though they are technically the same breed.

    Favorite breed poll

Red Angus... On the poll I suppose you could say Angus and derivative breeds, which would include red angus and murrey greys...

    A few pics to share

Nice looking cattle. Went to your website to read abit further - the photos there aren't showing up for me - just boxes. Thought you'd want to know. What frame size is Boaz, BTW?

    Photos of our breeding bulls

Out of curiosity, what frame sizes are these bulls? I really like the look and EPDs of Maximizer...

    ABS Red Angus Bulls

My guess is he means don't forget to look a the bull. Great EPDs are "Expected" not guaranteed. A bull can have great EPDs, but if he isn't structurally / phenotypically correct, he should be hamburger. EPDs are just a part of the picture.

Gait and soundness in bulls ?

Couple of suggestions: Try filming with most of the screen covered by the bull and the ground - the sky is so bright it makes everything else black. If you cut out most of the sky, the camera will compensate and brighten up the image. Also, it might be easier to examine his gate from the...

    Genetics question

Let me see if I can explain it: Your greatest hybrid vigor comes from crossing two completely unrelated animals "a" an "b". The closest you can come to this is two unrelated purebreds - say a continental and a british breed. Essentially, what you are doing is undoing the inbreeding that...

What think ye of Square Meater X Jersey - dual-purpose

Yep. Back safe and sound. I'll send you a pm and update you rather than hijack this thread. Thanks for the well wishes.

What think ye of Square Meater X Jersey - dual-purpose

There are red lowline bulls out there - take a look at: http://www.lazyglowline.com/ Pricey, but they have red lowline semen available if that's what you want. Also, if all you want is non-black small frame cattle, there are miniature hereford - try: http://www.mhbaonline.org/

    Ideal Red Angus Bull...

BRG, What do you mean by "soggy" bulls? I haven't run into that term before. Also, how old is he in that picture?

    Ideal Red Angus Bull...

I googled him, since your image didn't display. I have to agree he's pretty to look at... although his calving ease and birth weight EPDs make me nervous. But in this thread I'm mainly trying to get to where I can recognize a well-put-together bull. What do people think of his conformation?

    Ideal Red Angus Bull...

Well, that seems to be the normal way of doing things. But I was thinking if I had a few examples of bulls with excellent conformation, I could compare any I like to them. Supposedly, when they teach bankers to recognize counterfeits, they don't do it by showing them different examples of...

    Ideal Red Angus Bull...

One of the other threads gave me an idea. It seems to me you can learn a lot by looking at good stock. So, What are your top three picks for what you consider to be example of "the ideal Red Angus Bull", and why did you pick them?

    Which Bull?

Doc Holiday is certainly short little meat wagon. At one time I strongly considered lowlines, but finally I decided to go with a small registered Red Angus Bull instead. But if you have decided on Lowlines, I like TRUNGLEY TIGER'S EYE a little further down the page than Doc Holiday...

What is your percentage of keepers?

Thanks for everyone's replies. It really helps to here what otherpeople's management practices are.

    Which Bull?

Don't care for either - there are better lowlines out there, and their semen is availble. But I like the first beter. Second one looks post-legged to me, and his sheath isn't as good.
