    First farm born registered Brahman

She tried to eat me a couple of times. This is her first calf. She's getting a little better now, but she's always been a little skittish.

    First farm born registered Brahman

He's out of two grays, so he'll likely be a darker gray. But I do have a red brahman bull.

    Bull calves

It’s been a strange calving season for me so far. I’ve had 11 calves hit the ground so far, and 10 are bull calves.

    New Brahman Heifer

Not many. I’m friends with a family in the area that raises and shows them. He’s the only one around me that has any sizable herd.

    New to me bull

I haven't got a weight on him yet, but I'm guessing in the 2100-2200 lb range. He's really not short. He's quite a bit taller than my Angus bull, which has been a problem. I've got a 1850 lb Angus/Brahman cross cow (she was just weighed at the vet) that is far too tall for my Angus to breed...

    New to me bull

My goal is to have a small registered Hereford herd while working on building a registered Brahman herd. I just see what the registered specialty cattle sell for vs what I get at the sale barn for commercial cattle. There is no comparison. I could cut my herd size in half and make twice the money.

    New to me bull

I bought it directly from him. He raises primarily show Brahmans, but kept Herefords around for surrogate mother cows and bred a herd of Brafords as well.

    New to me bull

I’ve figured out that with a small herd like I have, you can’t make money on commercial cattle. I’m going to do specialty breeding and hopefully find a niche here in my area.

    New to me bull

Yes. He just came off a group of cows. He's really not thin. He's going to be held up until about July, when I'll turn him into my cows. He should have plenty of time to recover by then. He'll get plenty of feed, and attention. He's at my folks house and my mom loves friendly cattle and he's...

    New to me bull

I've decided to start switching out my herd from primarily Angus to Hereford and eventually Brahman and Brafords. I picked this guy up this week. He's a little older then I really wanted, but his calves looked great, the price was right, and I know he's been well taken care of. He should fit my...

Feed one and they all come running

I agree. It makes them a lot easier to handle.

    Almost had a tragedy today

I drive past a guy's lot and water tank on the way to my place. When it's really hot outside, he'll normally have one or two cows in the water trough. I keep thinking I'm going to drive by one day and find one floating in it. Either that or they are going to tear the side out of the tank getting...

    Almost had a tragedy today

I had the pick-up backed up and was getting a chain out to try to pull it on it's side when she finally got her feet under her.

    Almost had a tragedy today

After feeding some cake in the lot, I opened up the pen where I feed the two horses when I feed the cows. I took a trip around the pasture and came back to find this. I was about to find something to pull that tank over on its side when she finally got to her feet. I then got a shower of poopy...

Feed one and they all come running

I normally save part of a bag of cake to hand feed a few of the "pets". I'm beginning to think I have more pets then cows.
