    Weigh up sons

Have a weigh up daughter that has been pretty fertile and throws good calves so far. Holds condition well, moderate.

    Doubling Lute at CIDR removal

But what are the elves doing? ;-) (yes I know you meant dairies, just funnin')

    Doubling Lute at CIDR removal

Interesting discussion. I'm wondering for those of us that do timed AI, would using a bit more lute be helpful, or would you risk bringing them into heat too early (assuming you are not going to breed them until the tech comes to do them all)?

Sounds good, Ken. Hope yours do well!

Yup. Maybe he's got good swimmers but they didn't do well in transit/storage. But will stay away for sure. It has my calving season spread back out after working really hard for a tight spring window.

    AI Bulls--comments appreciated

Wanted to update this thread. We ended up using Crouthamel Protocol, Baldridge Bronc, and Tehama Bonanza. We had excellent conception with Protocol (100% on first try), about average with Bronc, and Bonanza went 0/5 (no conceptions in 3 animals in good condition on TAI. Two we tried Bonanza...

    Any good looking calves?

Got a couple Hoover Elation calves we are liking so far

    Tex Playbook or Baldridge Bronc

I like Bronc but having a hard time getting heifers bred with him. Dunno if his swimmers have anything to do with it but we're using our usual protocol and heifers are in good condition.

    Cidr or sponges

https://www.bovine-elite.com/NewsProtocols.pdf See pp3-4 for Timed AI ("TAI") protocols. Summary: insert CIDR and inject 2cc GNRH on Day 1. One week later, remove CIDR and inject 5cc Lute ("PG"). Then, at X* or Y** hours later, perform AI and inject another 2cc GNRH. *For Cows, X =60 to 66...

    Baldridge Bronc

We just re-did several heifers to him that didn't take the first time. (All of them took that we used a different sire, fwiw). Hoping second time's a charm...

    Deer Valley Testament?

https://selectsiresbeef.com/index.php/b ... ge?bid=410 Thoughts? I like some of him but the $EN is pretty low. (Seemingly lower than I would expect?)

    G A R Sunrise

Interesting, thanks for the reassurances, y'all. I'll repost in a few months when hopefully they will be jet black. They are otherwise very nice heifers.

    G A R Sunrise

Hi Jeanne, Yes, we waited a bit. The grass was slow to come; the area we turn them out into as "transitional" was pretty muddy; and we had a couple big bales we were hoping they'd polish off. They've been out about 2 wks. Happy campers. We've gone from "no grass" to (with our Dec. herd...

    G A R Sunrise

Thanks Ken, will try to get better pics after they've been on grass a few more weeks. The only weird thing is that they are staying quite reddish brown. They do have the black circles around their eyes (which I'm told is more reflective of their mature color). A friend's Red Angus mama "bunks"...

    Plattemere weigh up

Not really sure. She just kind of turned...Couldn't be worked, wouldn't load...couldn't get her in the barn. Vet had to come out with tranq gun so I could get a CIDR out. Took multiple doses of Rompum. Gave her a few weeks and she still was sketchy, so she is now in the freezer. Was bummed, she...

Thought I'd resurrect this thread and post a couple of our Sunrise heifer calves. Just turned out today. They are 7-8 wks old. (They're the two reddish ones standing in the foreground. First time our calves haven't come out jet black).

    Plattemere weigh up

Haven't looked at his DOC EPDs lately but I will say that the only cow we've culled for disposition was his. (And the dam you could pet).

    EPD Accuracy

We have had numerous Comrade calves (used him early on). My impression is that they do grow phenomenally for awhile and then often slow down (at least for us, in our all-grass environment with hay half the year). Once they get on nice spring grass, they tend to get another growth spurt. So far...
