    Thermal/night vision?

After the wolves killed calves here last fall nearly everyone bought a thermal. I don't know what they cost but I do know that the coyote population has taken a pretty good hit. If anyone shot a big dog they are keeping the mouth shut as they should.

    Warmer days = bass biting

Question? What is this warm weather you talk about? And people go outside with just a light shirt or T shirt?

    Warmer days = bass biting

We are between. Too much ice to fish. And the ice is too weak to ice fish on. Got to wait a couple months to fish.

    Super bowl

Toward the end of the 2nd quarter I left to go do calf check. So did 3 other guys. I think I was the last one back. I missed the first 2 minutes of the 3rd. So I missed the entire half time show. There was enough going on at the party that I never noticed a single commercial. There was...

    Super bowl

It was a decent game to watch. Won at the end of over time. But I wonder, what was the over and under on how many times they would show Taylor Swift?

    Always wanted a Colt 1911

My youngest son told my brother that he always wanted a 1911. Brother was an extremely successful competitive shooter. He said that he has 8 of them. I imagine several of them are match grade.

    Sugar Bowl

Lots of the games were that way. Oregon State got embarrassed by Notre Dame. They were missing half a dozen key players and their head coach left to take another job. But the two games last night were good. The two teams who should win both did. But there was enough screw ups to keep it...

    Want Solitude?

I see your point. There is thinking and then there is thinking. Working in an office with 140 engineers would very often be insane. The big out there is certainly peaceful but it can and will kill you if you don't pay attention.

    Want Solitude?

Oh, here you best be thinking and paying attention. Note my original post we drove 48 miles on a Saturday afternoon in June and only passed one car. Every winter some people follow a map or GPS and get stuck out in the middle of no where. They don't all survive. Lots of that there is no cell...

Which big gun would you want?

Some years back I shot a nice 5x5 bull on opening day. So I was reduced to chief cook and bottle washer and driver hauling the kids around. One afternoon I was in the local watering hole. I was talking to a young man who had also got his elk. He was telling me the story. Shot it twice in...

Which big gun would you want?

For a lot of years I shot everything with a 30-06 with a 2x7 Leopold scope. It was my only rifle and it worked just great. Shot a boat load of deer and elk with that rifle. Had to pass on an elk a little too far out and needed a scope with more power. So I bought the 300 Win and put a 4x14...

Which big gun would you want?

I have a 300 Win Mag that is my go to elk rifle. I like 200 grain Noslar partitions through it. Half a dozen elk with that combination I always get the desired results. That is shooting Roosevelt elk in Western Washington. They are bigger animals than the Rocky Mountain elk most people hunt...

    Elk

Bull!!! Wolves kill a lot more than 200. They killed 7 this fall in this little valley. Probably over 30 confirmed this year in this county. And that is confirmed. How many out on range land just never come home. And getting one confirmed in no easy task. They will determine that is is...

    Elk

Wolves sure kill the adult elk here. A pack kills one every two or three days. I am sure the rate which the calves get killed in much higher. One pack here was killing a yearling steer every other day. They figured out that steers were easier to kill than elk. It is pretty well documented...

    Elk

The wolves will have to move a long ways from Lolo to eat beef. And a lot of them did. Several hundred miles to my neighborhood. A few clear to California. They darn near breed like rabbits.

    Elk

None. Miles and miles of forest with no roads. South of the Hwy12 (Lolo Pass) is designated wilderness for a long ways. North side is forest service with a few logging roads.

    Elk

The Lolo elk herd was estimated around 12,000 in 1996 when wolves were introduced. That herd is now estimated at about 1,000 animals and the wolves are estimated in the hundreds. If you have ever been there what isn't actual designated wilderness is wilderness for all intents and purposes...

    Here kitty kitty

We don't blow big holes in the Bobcats here. They are worth too much money. There is a huge difference in the fur and coloring based on regions. Our cats are worth $300-$400 for the nice big ones.

    Elk

So that is where my elk went? I hear that wolves really took care of the elk herd on Lolo in Idaho. Maybe you would like some of those too. Me and my neighbors would be willing to send you a couple dozen.

    Day 1 of NFR cancelled

Stetson Wright is turning out the rest of the NFR. He has a damaged hamstring muscle. Already had surgery scheduled for after the NFR. After falling off his first three head a decision was made. Not an easy on him decision when he was sitting in first place in the world in both the bull...
