    I Love My Camera!

Can you people give me details about the camera system you have and about how much you have into it and where you bought it. Been wanting to get a couple cameras for calving. Don't want to go wireless.

    Disappointing results

I assume you pulled the calf and the heifer is alright? Will you keep her and breed her again?

Explain this dead calf or try to

Seven year old cow had dead heifer calf two weeks early. I know these things happen and we will never quite understand what exactly happened but shoot some ideas my way will you? Some of the odd things were she didnt look all loose and sloppy in the back end. Her bag was not very filled out. She...

    Need new bull

What do you guys do with your bulls if they are not very old and a good breeding bull but you cant use them in your herd anymore because of their daughters? Sure hate to take a good bull to the salebarn. Ive tried craigslist but that isn't really the best place. Not a lot of beef farms around here.

Monday must be the day for calving

I have had 10 calves born so far. One more late one the first of June to come yet. 7 calves were born on a Monday. 7 bulls, 2 heifers, and 1 freemartin heifer. Mondays must be the day for calves.

BW on 11 day early calf

A friend of mine wants me to save him a bull. I have a bull calf born 11 days early out of a 4 year old red angus cow that was sired by LCC Field Day (Reg.937253). He wants to use the bull on his herd of Belted Galloways. The calf weighed 75 pounds the day after it was born. I don't want to save...

    heat detection

I don't recommend this way of doing things but think it will work great this breeding season. When I banded calves last spring I had 2 that I did not get both nuts below the band. I later had the vet out and cut them at around 9 months old. These two are heat detecting fools. They are almost a...

    Our Calving seaon so far

Looks like your keeping a close eye on them and its paying off. I have 5 heifers and 5 cows to calve this spring. Right after I got home last night from my day job a heifer dumped out a nice little heifer calf. Got the calf and mother in the barn, turned my back for like 5 minutes and she had...

    Open Cows

How many days were they fresh when you turned the bull in with them? Did these two cows have difficulty calving? I wish I had all the answers for you and me both. I strictly AI and ended up with 9 cows due in March and April and 2 of my nicest due way out in the first of June. I thought all my...

    Couldnt get into cervix AI

He said it seemed the opening to the cervix was blocked. I called the vet and she said it is possibly a cervical prolapse. She said to bring her into heat again and try again. If he cannot get gun into cervix that he will have to go in vaginally and start the gun into the cervix. Worth a try I...

    Couldnt get into cervix AI

Last week I posted about a cow that came up with blood on her tail that I presumed was already bred. Now the rest of the story. RA cow born in spring 03, has had a heifer and a bull calf both AI bred. No problems calving and my records show she was bred in 06 and 07 only once each year and...

    heat detection frustrating

I had a heck of a time. I always write down any cow that cycles on my calendar in the barn and write them down to check in 21 days. I had cattle that had cycled two times and then didnt cycle the third time when I wanted to breed them. I had others cycle at weird times, 15 days, 27 days. Just...

    heat detection frustrating

I have 11 head of Red Angus I am trying to get bred this year. 5 heifers and 6 cows that are between 3 and 5 years of age that all had calves last year. I have done synchronizing in the past with limited results. I thought I finally had everyone bred until yesterday, one of my nicer cows that...

    cow aborted twin heifers

Ok, not many responded. How about this question for you. After the first calf was delivered the placenta could be seen hanging out of the cow. I came back after driving to town and she had delivered the second dead calf. No placenta hanging out of cow, no nothing anywhere but the dead calf. Does...

    cow aborted twin heifers

Yesterday cow aborted twin heifer calves. She was 3 months away from calving. The first calf looked like the size of a skinned 20 pound coon, very very fat everywhere, like it was blown up with air or liquid. The second calf looked normal to me, skinny as youd think one would look like at this...

    Why wont they cycle?

They are were born in 03 and 2 heifers in 05. I bought them this spring and the guy I bought them from said 4 were bred. It turned out 2 were bred and they had nice calves and no problems calving. When I got them I saw one cow that wasnt bred cycle a few times but then quit. I never saw the...

    Why wont they cycle?

I bred some cows by the method of the CIDR and Lutalyse. These cows were not cycling good to start with. I had one on Sat. that wanted to ride the other cows for just a little while then was all calm. Noone ever offered to pay any attention to her or ride her. This was approx. 48 days after we...

    heat cycles

I have some 5 red angus cows. Half of them do not have good strong heat cycles since I have had them in the spring. I put cidr's in and lutalyse and had 3 come in real strong and the other two not very but bred all of them anyway. I would love to see these gals cycling real good months before I...

    Testing of semen tank

A friend of mine gave me a semen tank that he use to use. It is 20 yrs old but looks in great shape. Had it filled and 24 hours later there is absolutely no sign of any liguid nitrogen in it. I did not check it after the semen guy filled it, nor did I pick the tank up. I watched him take the...
