    One or Two?

I would give him a shot of Selenium (Multimin 90 or BoSe). Must get from a vet. Those big dumb suckers are usually lacking SE. And I would give a little heavier dose than recommended.

older cow with bad bag..but new heifer calf...what are the odds of her passing bad bag to new calf?

Here's a statement taken from an Ohio State University article: "Udder scores in beef cattle are considered to be moderately heritable. Two scores are typically taken on beef cows, suspension and teat size. The heritability for suspension is .32 and .28 for teat size. What these values tell us...

    Mostly Heifer calves

When artificially breeding - the "speed" of the sperm can be utilized to help predict by breeding really early in her cycle vs normal or late in her cycle. But, if you breed too early, you get lower conception rates. Theory being, male sperm is slimmer and faster and arrives at the LOCATION...

    One or Two?

I vote single. Cows tend to lost a bit of weight when carrying twins - compared to contemporaries.

    'Bout Time!

Yup - I have a "number" that represents the cow family. I have #3 goes back to a cow Hudson Pines leased from me and flushed her for a year (every 60 days) - I got half the embryos for the lease. She averaged 19 viable embryos. Half my herd is #3. I have a few #9 - that number goes back to...

    New bull time

I'm sure the GV breed has improved - but - back when founders of ASA went to Europe to check out the different strains of Simmental, they rejected Gelbvieh because they had such a bad temperament. So, GV is a strain of Simmental in Europe.

    Here's a cutie

I breed ALL my cows for a heifer. They are my money makers - males are, as I said, cash flow. I "know" I have a paycheck each October. Heifers are an income - whenever!!! Never know. Right now, I have at least 4 spoken for. I offer to sell "pick" of my AI heifers prior to April for $4500 -...

Warren - most of them. I never use it because I want a mixture of heifers and bulls. The steers/bulls are my cash flow. All are sold in October after weaning and pre-conditioning. When I flush, I always do IVF reverse sort for heifers.

    Here's a cutie

Oh, yes, he will remain a bull. I have all my bulls sold and need a couple more! Only have 3 cows left to calve. 1 is late !!! fingers crossed for a bull. This is NOT normally what I wish for. But, I have orders for more bulls than I have on the ground. VERY unusual year. I choose every...

And remember, if you vaccinate for Lepto, it is only good for 6 months. Cows need to be vaccinate twice a year.
