    electric fence wire

Thanks to everyone. Looks like I'll be better off just going with 12.5 ga high tensile from the start.

    electric fence wire

I'm finally about ready to put up some electric fence and was wondering about the wire of choice. I'm looking at 17 gauge aluminum and 16 gauge high tensile steel. This will be semi permanent fencing. One thing I have read is that the aluminum fence can't be rolled up and reused, not sure about...

    grounding an electric fence

Thanks all. I was planning on doing what Dun suggested but wanted to get a 2nd opinion. I don't think getting plenty of moisture will be a problem if I drive them down to the rock. We have lots of wet weather little springs that pop up due to all the water running under the dirt during the...

    grounding an electric fence

I know from reading that 3 eight ft ground rods properly spaced are recommended for grounding the fence. My problem is that I don't think we have over 2-3 feet of dirt where I need to put this fence up. The whole place sits on top of sandstone with a cliff along one side. So can the ground rods...

    fence question

That whole field sits on sandstone. At that end of the field that as deep as the dirt is. There's not dirt in a few places, just rock ledge sticking through. The only way to put a wood post in the ground is to chip out a hole in the rock and I'm not interested in doing that. I'd use electric but...

    fence question

So I'm trying to divide up this 20 acre field. I need to make a corner and the dirt is only about 10 to 12 inches deep down the entire length of the field on one side so I can't use wood posts. Anyone got a neat trick for making a strong corner with T posts?

Found this add this morning. NOT MINE. I thought someone might be interested. I don't know anything about the hay or person offering it. http://lexington.craigslist.org/grd/1340125443.html

    keep or not

Thanks all. I got to thinking about this today and maybe he is gonna wrap it for haylege (sp). He had some that he did last year. I still haven't had a chance to talk to him yet or check the rolls. I'm gonna do both tomorrow after work. Still I believe I'll let him have this field and tell him...

    keep or not

The neighbor thats baling our hay this year mowed a 20 acre field yesterday. He was done by 2pm. It was a beautiful warm day around 80 with lots of sunshine. Today while we were at church he baled about 15 acres of it, raked a few more into rows and left the rest laying. I haven't had a chance...

    0-0-60 fertilizer

Yes Kenny, London is in Laurel Co. I live a couple of miles out of town. Knersie I'm very familar with chicken litter. That's all we used for fertilizer back when I was a boy. My grandparents both had big commercial houses as did most of the people in their part of the county. We'd clean their...

I have no idea how to describe my soil other than it is dirt and it's pretty much brown until you get below the topsoil then it turns a kind of orange color. Does that help? :D I'm 75 miles or so south of you down I 75 Dyates if that helps you any.

    Lime-price? where to buy?

Our local cattlemans association has a lime spreader they rent out for $80 a day. One of the adjoining counties' association rents theirs for $20 a day. I work with a guy from over there so he is renting it and bringing it to me since he practically drives past our place on his way each day.

Sorry people, I had a senior moment earlier. I'm putting down 2,000 lb an acre not 200 lb per acre. I gotta go to bed it's way past my bedtime. Thanks to everyone who posted up. I'll check back in the am before I go off to work. Sorry Douglas, no way to scan it and I'm too sleepy to...
