I think I am pricing cattle too cheap!

Watched the Mexican cattle auction in New Mexico again yesterday. Usually they only sell heifers and steers in the 400 range to the 600 range. Hardly ever a 300 weight, unless it is like 398. And once in a blue moon there may be some that average 705 or so. But yesterday, they had heifers in...

Backyard grassers must have come to the sale.

Once the price at the grocery store gets so high people can't afford it, and buy other meat instead, and the demand for cattle isn't there anymore, the market will collapse, and prices will return to normal.

    Close to $2.00 killer bulls

I watched Enid for a while today. I saw several black pairs sell, and they were higher than that. In the low 3's. But those cows were in great condition. Watched one in Athens, Ga, and they run the pairs in, then sell the cow by the pound, then sell the calf by the head or by the...

    Close to $2.00 killer bulls

I saw old, milked out Holstein cows bring $1.30-$1.40 today. 1600 lbs and up. One old cows was 1900 and change. She was 16 hds tall, and all skin and bones. .And udder, She brought $1.34. $2500 for something that might yield 500 lbs of hamburger!

    Feeder futures

Ga or SC doesn't restrict any cattle coming in yet, but at least every state that borders us does.

@coachg , @alacowman1 , if things aren't going well at Ft Payne, maybe that was why Calhoun decided to move its sale from Thursday to Tuesday???

    Black Hereford Sale

Yep. Demand is growing at a faster rate then Angus or Simm....dang sure faster than for red Hereford. Great prices y'all got on them! There are quite a few Red Angus, Angus, or Simmental production or association sales online every day, and most of their sales prices are inline with these...

    Heifers

Same around here. At least as far as commercial heifers go. People would rather get opens and breed to what they have, or want, as far as bulls go. About the only time I see bred heifers, is at a breeder's or association production sale. The bull they are bred to is disclosed, and often even...

I think I am pricing cattle too cheap!

I get a kick out of seeing those Corr cows nursing a calf that is as big ( or bigger) they are! We bred some to a ChiAngus a couple of years back, and I saw calves kneeling to nurse! How old is this calf?

    Heifers

No, I wouldn't worry about STDs. An open heifer hasn't had a chance to get Trich from a bull, like a cow that has been bred. You see all kinds at a sale. People will speak up, or the auctioneer will, and tell how long they have been weaned, what vaccs and when they have been given, etc. Then...

    Heifers

That is right in line with what those 7weight black polled heifers brought in KY yesterday at $2.54/lb. They averaged 755lbs, actually, so that was $1900 each. I got a feeling those weren't bought to be replacement heifers, though. I think they went to slaughter. Or to a feedlot, then to...

    Heifers

If you could find any a year old to buy! I was watching a KY sale today. Black heifers averaging 485 brought $3.58. White, yellow, smoky, etc heifers the same size were $2.38- $2.53. Another bunch like them, but that averaqed 755 brought $2.54. More sets of heifers than steers today at this...

I think I am pricing cattle too cheap!

He did make me the offer.. He priced them. I just felt bad because it will be 2 years after he gets them before he has a calf to sell. Today, the black polled ones would bring at least $2.50 a pound, probably closer to $3. And the other colored and horned ones, would bring at least $2 a...

I am not sure, Little Joe. There were two Arkansas sales going on at the same time. One was in a town called Damascus, I think, and I don't remember where the other one was.

I think I am pricing cattle too cheap!

This weekend, I had a dude come by and offered to buy all the 1/2 Corr 1/2 Ang heifers we will have this year. Said he wants to get a herd of these and breed them to beef bulls every year. He thinks he can build a herd that will produce good calves for a lot less money than buying beef cows...
