abrasive wheel steel cutting chopsaw problems.

I just cut 18 pieces of 2 x 2 x 1/4" square tubing. Going through the flat sides takes lots of down force, once you hit just the two walls it's easy. Then when you hit the bottom flat side again you really have to press down. I always try to cut metal so that I am going thru the least amount of...

    Its time for more hp

Deere 6000 series has been discontinued as of last fall I believe. Now it's the 6 series. http://www.deere.com/wps/dcom/en_US/corporate/our_company/news_and_media/press_releases/2012/agriculture/2012aug23_6series_tractors.page The 6M series replaces the 6030 series while the 6R replaces the...

    Gooseneck trailers with dovetail

I have a PJ 20+5 with the adjustable dovetail. You use a 12k lb jack to raise and lower the dovetail. I had two 8k lb axles put on it as well as G rated tires and a toolbox mounted underneath the deck on each side. Cost me about $9500 I use it flat to haul pipe and hay and with the dovetail...

    John Deere running scared

If you compare the Kubota to the lighter Deere (5000 series) of course the Kubota is heavier. Compare any Kubota of comparable size that you can find to the Deere 6R or 6M series- no contest. Deere has had to start making lighter and cheaper tractors in Georgia and Mexico to be able to compete...

hay unroller vs modified cone feeder

I currently use a hay unroller to feed my hay. I unroll a few feet, pick up the roll, move 10' and unroll some more thus spreading the bale out. My old method was to unroll it all in one long continuous row as I didn't have a 3 point hay unroller at the time. The new method is a lot better but...

    4wd tractor for haying

Thanks I am looking at a 5085m or 5100m. I am interested in the "M" model because it has some features that I want like the 32F/16R speed transmission, the sunroof (which would be handy to be able to see better for use with my tree shear as well as stacking hay 4 bales high), the air...

    Deere 5085M or 5100m questions

anybody here running either of these? What do you like or dislike? How quiet is the cab compared to other tractors that you own or have owned. Especially looking for comparisons on sound level compared to the 6020 or 6030 series. thanks

    Kinked up hay ring

Thanks. It worked pretty good. We chained one end to the rim then drove on top of the sucker rod then bent it around by hand then drove forward some more. We were able to get some pretty decent rings. It took some time and work but we ended up with some heavy duty rings.

    Kinked up hay ring

We had a few that were tore up and we made new rings and uprights for them out of sucker rod. To get them round, we chained one end to the tractor tire and then used the tire as a "form" to help bend the rod. We welded them with 7018. They were heavy as all get out but lasted use until we sold...

    new kuhn rake

This is my first year to use a Kuhn Speed Rake. No problems other than it rakes up everything on the ground. My old side delivery rake would leave all of the thatch that was laying there from me mowing the winter grass off each spring. The Kuhn picks up this thatch as well as all of the cow...

If you are trying to break up the hardpan then the deeper the better.

    Chisel Plow HP ?

I have a 90hp 4wd Deere that with loader and ballast in the tires weighs around 12k. I can pull a 7 shank chisel plow and sink it about 12" deep in most of my heavy soils. Sometimes I have to raise it up to 6-8"

Is upgrading from a JD435 baler worth it?

I had a 335 (4x4) for about 10 years then went to a 457 about 7 years ago. It has net wrap and the high moisture kit. I see no difference in starting a bale between the two. The old one had the rubber converging wheels, which worked good but I kept tearing the rubber teeth or having to put them...

    John Deere 285 Mower

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new mower. I just traded in my John Deere 275 disc mower for a Kuhn 11'6" trailed type disc mower. I got tired of having to spend 30 minutes hitching it to the tractor (and I even have a quick hitch). It was a great mower just a pain to hitch up. I...

    Tractor Recommendations

John Deere batteries are made in Germany and shipped over here dry. You did not specify that your tractor was equipped with loader and weights, as you knew that you didn't have a leg to stand on. John Deere's are more fuel efficient than Kubota's. Check Nebraska Tractor Tests. While you are...

    Tractor Recommendations

You are wrong. The Kubota Power Crawler M126x only weighs 11,464 and it has the heavy undercarriage and tracks. The wheeled M126x weighs a little over 10k. A 6430 weighs 10845 lbs. Now on my 6220 if you want to count the weight of my front end loader and ballast in my tires then I come in at...

    Tractor Recommendations

The type of steel has nothing to do with it. Kubota doesn't want to spend the money on a heavier frame. Here is a good example. Deere makes tractors in the 5000 series that are lighter like the Kubotas. This is so that they can be priced like a Kubota. If you want a heavier tractor, look at the...

    baler

If you aren't a mechanic or don't have mechanical skills I don't recommend buying on old baler. At least buy one that has been through a shop and been checked out. I don't see how guys can afford to buy a baler or farm equipment and not have the know how to fix it themselves. I can not imagine...

BUSH HOG Squealer - OK or Junk

My neighbor has had three Squealers and wears them out fairly quick on her 100 acres. We had the predecessor to the 296. It lasted us 10 years mowing 200 acres and some with heavy brush. The gearbox finally failed so we bought the 296 last year. If you just have a few acres and no brush, the...

    Disc mower

I just bought a Kuhn GMD 3550 TL trailed type disc mower. Cuts 11'6" wide. Price was $17,050. My old JD 275 ( same as Kuhn GMD 700) was 9'2" cut. I bought a quick hitch with it and their was nothing quick about it. If the mower wasn't sitting perfectly level, it was a 30 minute or more job to...
