    Semi Load Out Chute

I built one back in’08 for the farm I used to herdsmen for. 16’ railroad ties for the posts. Treated 2x8’s for the sides, two 1/2” bolts at every overlap. Rail road ties for the floor with 2x2x1/4 angle iron for the cleats. The floor rotted out and I replaced it with 3x12’s It was only about...

Calling all you good diesel mechanics

I just bought the round baler last fall. It’s really at the bottom end of enough hp. The baler is the only thing it has trouble with. I run my TMR wagon everyday all winter no problem

Calling all you good diesel mechanics

Thank you both @chevytaHOE5674 and @Ouachita . That’s the kind of advice I’m looking for.

Calling all you good diesel mechanics

I have a JD 6320 . It’s 100 engine hp. It uses the same engine as a JD 6420. Which is 110 engine hp. I run my round baler with it and it does ok on flat ground but falls flat on its face in hills. I talked to my mechanic today about turning it up and he said that pump would have to be sent...

    Cattle chute neck bar ideas?

So these are probably the biggest reasons I have shoulders that grind and pop. I use to catch 500-800 cows a week for a bred cow sale. We did those at least once a month from November to April. It seems like cows instinctively stick their nose to the floor when you catch them. Then try and pull...

    Bale Spears

I’ve got two king kutter bale spears. They’re ok. Neither one of them get used very much. One is the kind that bolts on over the bucket. It’s easy for my dad to put on and off. He moves 1 round bale about every two weeks. The other one is a 3pt spear that we sometimes use when we’re carrying...

All Keyed Up Over My Tractor

I wear headphones when I’m running my open tractors mowing. You want to talk about a loud tractor. I used to run a JD 4320 with an all weather cab. The whole thing echoed and rattled. There was always a set of headphones hanging on the steering wheel and they got put on before the tractor got...

All Keyed Up Over My Tractor

Good sounding tractor. I’d $hit can that straight pipe first. Even with a muffler those 404’s are pretty loud barking in your ear all day. A JD 4020 has to be about one of the most versatile tractors made. Growing up I square baled a lot of hay behind a narrow front 4020 with 15.5/38’s on the...

    JD 5525 fuel issues

Yeah but it took a mechanic 3 hours to figure out the problem the first time. Tracing wires. We got the tractor running and he ordered the part for me. I decided then that if it runs fine with out it I wasn’t hooking it back up. The fuse box cover always has things in front of it. A log chain...

    Skid Steers

Oh I’m sure we were behind on greasing the pistons that keep the tracks tight. I was in a tight barnyard unloading a trailer of round bales. Turned to short in a dry dirt driveway and BANG that was it.

    Skid Steers

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned what a B!tch it is when you throw a track off. I had one come off in the summer. That was bad enough. I can’t imagine how much fun it would be if it’s zero outside.

    Tractor recommendations

That can be true. Experience is the best teacher. Used to have a JD 4320 w/ 158 loader 2wd all weather cab and a JD 6320 w/ 673 loader MFWD open station. I could get around better with the 2wd tractor than the college kids that worked for us could with the MFWD. Being smart like driving up hill...

    Tractor recommendations

If you want a little older and bigger I’ve got neighbors who have a JD 4450 MFWD with a JD740 loader. It’s a bulldozer on wheels. I’ve seen them push mud with the front axle and not be able to see the draw bar for the mud. Haying cows in the spring when the frost goes out.

    Tractor recommendations

JD 7230, JD 7410, JD 6430, There pretty much bomb proof and comfortable to run.

    JD 5525 fuel issues

Not really. It might smoke a little more for just a minute or two. Any time temps are under 20 it gets plugged in. Then it’s no big deal.

    JD 5525 fuel issues

That new sensor for my 5425 has been sitting on the dash of my truck for two winters. It seems to work fine without it, and that tractor gets ran every day.

    Cattle chute neck bar ideas?

I prefer nosers to a halter I have more control over the spooky ones. I have a regular head table that we use to dehorn and ring bulls. The vet that I worked for had a calf break its neck with a nose bar and refused to use one after that.

    Question about radial tractor tires?

I think they “squat” more than bias tires. Different brands have different treads. Firestone is famous for their 23 degree tires. They do well in snow and mud. I have Mitoch tires on my big tractor. The bars are 45 degrees. They pull great in mud, but not as well in snow/ice.

    calf catcher skid steer mounted

I used to have pictures on a phone. I have GoBob hay monster bale feeders. I had a cow that was 3 legged lame in the middle of 160acres. I used the tractor to set a bale ring over the cow and hold it down while we doctored her.

    9N, 8N, Tractors

    That’s not factory. I have my grandpa’s ’41 9N. It’s got a flat head 4 cylinder engine.
