    3 generations

Yesterday a CT member from a couple hours away came to our stockyard. Best thing was he brought his young son and his dad. I had told him about some Simmental bulls nearby and they stopped and bought one. But the best part was the young son picked the bull. Im talking maybe5, 6 or 7 years...

    Bad advice?

I study market trends and follow a lot of weekly sales and consider myself fairly informed about cattle prices. Myself and at least a couple others have given some bad advice this summer and fall. All indications were that the calf market was going to stay strong into 2024. A few of us commented...

    Phantom bidders

Simme's comments in the bull sale thread about Phantom Bidders got me to thinking about things that go on at a sale. Registered sales, bull sales, special cow sales, regular stockyard sales. Even goat and sheep sales and horse sales. Oh, farm machinery sales too. As i have stated before i...

    PH change

Lime truck driver spread 4 ton per acre on some of my hayfields today. Waste of money over 2 ton. If the begining PH was 5.2 what can i expect it to be next year. I tried to calculate using a buffering effect formula but im not smart enough. By the way our lime is cheap so not going to break...

    Feeder futures

Feeder futures for some months are down today over $5. Corn up, soybeans up, crude oil up. Lots of problems in the US and worldwide may ruin the calf market for a while. Livestock Risk Protection looks like would have been a great idea several months ago. Some months are 16 cents less now...

    Still good people

With all the bad things that are going on now there are still some good folks out there. On September 6th i was admitted into a hospital in Florida with some severe Bowel problems. On September 10th 2 men from here came 600 miles 1 way to get me and my fuel truck. I could not have driven home...

    Sales canceled

Tonight I have been advised of 2 cattle sales being canceled this week. One in KY and 1 in TN..Its only in the low 90's but they are saying its because of the heat. Im sure the TX sales see hotter than that many weeks a year.

    Short trip

I made a short trip today to look at a couple Simmental bulls. I picked up ClinchValley86 along the way and pretty sure he cant find his way back where the bulls are. Had a good visit with Simme and seen some very good cattle. Will go back and pick up the 2 bulls around September 1st. He...

As i travel i often think about places i probably pass that would be a fun 1 hour stop. Places nobody would go on vacation to, just something to see. Of course i stop at most Buc-ee's but what else is out there? One place i have seen signs for but not been to yet is Wall Drug. What are...
