bale it or let it lay there

We have had so much rain around Memphis it ain't funny...ain't complaining though. Pastures are still pretty lush. I took cows off of the pastures a couple of months ago and the grass is jumping I guess from the fertilizer from the cow manure. It's been hard to cut and get it baled between...

bale it or let it lay there

This will be my last cutting on some pastures I have used for the cows but intend to make hay fields out of next year. They are about 6 to 8 inches in mixed grass and kinda thin in places. Would I be better to bale it and get it off before limeing or cut it and let it lay there to put some...

    horses and pigs

I came home yesterday to discover that my 3 little piglets had gotten out and were dead. At first I thought it was the dogs and was bout ready to pass around a dose of lead poisioning until picking them up to dispose of them it looked like major cuts in them instead of teeth gashes like from a...

    No Fertilizer

I just bought enough fertilizer to do about 10 acres and ran out before finishing the field. It is very noticeable where I ran out too! It's like you can't afford to fertilize but you can't afford not to.

    metal zee purlins

I built or am building a shed off my barn. I aquired some metal roof trusses and set them on 6x6 posts and off of the existing post in the barn. I picked up some metal zee purlins and though I have never put any up I suppose you stand them on end and either bolt or weld them to the trusses?

3 year old angus bull for the freezer?

I took a load to the sale a couple of weeks ago and the man running the sale said he suspected he'd bring around $800 so I brought him home. I paid $1400 for him last year. Maybe private treaty sale would bring more out of him. He threw some good calves last year I just hate to give him away at...

Caustic I had wondered about doing just that. I have a small trailer already and access at work to tanks. What kind of pto pump should I look at? TSC?

    Pasture sprayer

I will be using a 65 hp tractor, 3 poing hitch and spraying hayfields averaging 10 15 acres in size each. The barn is accessible from all fields for refilling. I don't have much experience with spraying.

    cows or hay

I have on hand one new tractor, one decent Ford 5000 tractor for raking and back up, new Case IH square baler, good rake and cutter, JD round baler and a 80/64 foot barn for storage. I plan to buy an accumulator and grapple from Haymaster for loading squares. As has been said here before you got...

    pea sheller

Thanks, that looks easy enough to build. I wonder how it would do on butter beans?

    pea sheller

Earl, that sounds good. I remember that my grand dad had made one. It was a big wooden box type thing with a screen under it. It seems like it would take a whole bunch at one time. That was long ago.

    cows or hay

"Most" of my ground is in bermuda with some clover and such mixed in. The ground I am cutting for hay is far poorer than my pastures and really need reworking. I have trained horses for the past 17 years and know a lot of horse people in the area that I think I can make hay customers out of but...

    cows or hay

For the last 4 years I have been working on building a small herd of mixed angus cows. So far I have 20 momma cows and one registared black angus bull, and 14 calves 350 to 500 ready to go to the sale. I have 2 good tractors, a john deere round baler and new case ih square baler along with a...
