    Shade trees in dry lot

I’m thinking about this too but don’t want trees hanging over fence dying

    I’m thinking about that too

    Shade trees in dry lot

I have a dry lot that I use to gather cattle and wean calves. The trees have died and I would like to add some back for shade. What types of trees will hold up to dry lot (other than honey locust)? I mostly use for a few months in spring/early summer for weaning. I know I’ll have to protect them...

    John Deere 5E vs 5M

Dealer is trying to tell me 5E is junk but I think he’s just trying to upsell. The extra bells and whistles would be nice but I don’t think it’s worth $15-$20k more. I only put on 300 hours per year. The only differences I see looking at specs are a little better hydraulic flow, more...

    John Deere 5E vs 5M

I’m trying to decide between 5E and 5M. I will mostly be using for hay mowing, baling and moving. Is the 5M really worth the extra $15-20k?

    18.4-30 vs 16.9-34

Thanks for the replies. I was asking because I might start shopping for a new tractor. Some offer either option. I wasn’t sure which would be better. The 18.4-30 is wider and would have a wider footprint. The 16.9-34 would be little taller and have a longer footprint

    18.4-30 vs 16.9-34

If you had a choice between 18.4-30 and 16.9-34 rear tires, which would you pick and why?

    Semen Tanks

Thanks, that’s exactly the feedback I was looking for. I saw that comment and didn’t fully understand it.

    Semen Tanks

I am just starting to AI so trying to keep my startup costs under control. I don’t need a huge tank as I will eventually breed less than 100 annually at most all in a one month period. Does anyone have experience with Vevor tanks? Thinking about the 10 liter. What should I be looking for...

    Rural Internet Options

We pay for 7 mbps and get about 5 with Radiowire. The GotW3 people are getting 25+. We are getting by but it would be nice to stream more and get rid of satellite TV.

    Rural Internet Options

What are people using for home internet in rural areas? I currently use Radiowire which is a local fixed wireless provider. It’s okay but want to know what other options are out there. I have a local company pushing GotW3 which is cellular based. I have seen others like Nomad that are also...

    Side by side feeders

I have an older Stull. It has worked well. We have fed ground feed and pellets through it. I like how they have changed the auger on the newer ones. It used to be smaller, plastic and free floating.

    Unrolling hay into rings

This is what I have. I was thinking that I might save hay by spinning off into a ring so cows don’t have to pull out of bale. https://www.worksaver.com/bale-spin-off

    Unrolling hay into rings

Is anybody unrolling hay into rings or some type of bunk? I’m curious if that would reduce waste more than just putting bale into ring. I have a hydraulic unroller for loader that spins the hay off but have not used for ring.

    (cheap) scales set-up?

I put this scale under a stull feeder on our Mule 3 years ago. We’ve been happy with it.

    Joplin Stockyards Commingling

I’m in Missouri and looking for new way to sell feeder calves. I see Joplin offers commingling at their sales. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it help get a better price? https://www.joplinstockyards.com/commingle_information.php

    Baleage for Stockers

Thanks, I have thought about some summer annuals to add in. I also thought about a little distillers or soy hulls for energy. It would just depend on pricing.

    Baleage for Stockers

Does anyone have experience with feeding baleage to stocker calves? I think I could use wheat or preboot fescue and get decent gains for low cost. Energy might be something I would need to supplement, but protein shouldn't be an issue if cut at the right stage. Baleage would let me do that.

    More on rotational grazing

That's what's great about the temporary fence. It's easy to move when you find a better way. My fencing is rarely the same every year.

    GPS guidance on a budget

We bought a used Trimble 250 off ebay for about $1000. It has the lightbar and a map to show where you've been. Even my 70 year old dad loves it. It saves on the fatigue of trying to see your tracks and maintain your spacing.
