    Bull nettle

The secret to controlling bull nettle is to spray when they are in bloom. I have had success using 2,4-D and a surfactant. An old retired county agent told me to use 2 tbsp. of 2,4-D, 1 tbsp of liquid Dawn soap in 1 gallon of water. With a hand pump up sprayer, spray individual plant to point...

    MSMA

Unfortunately, people use products in manner that the product was not intended. MSMA is labeled for use in turf grass. Read the entire label it clearly says "do not feed treated forage to livestock or graze treated areas"

Most of the pre-condition sales are wanting 45 to 60 days weaned.

    Bermuda vs. Bahia seed

Be careful with just asking for common bermuda. There are forage types and turf types.

    Different mineral

I agree with Simme, it does not contain enough copper.

    Old round bales

Try turning them up on end and pouring about 8 gallons of molasses and let it soak in. A couple of days latter go set them on a bare spot in pasture.. What the cows don't eat will add organic material and nutrients for worn out ground.

    Hello from Deep East Texas

Travlr, there were tornados in his county yesterday. I messaged him and heard back that the storms passed to his northwest.

    Protein or Energy

Murray, you have about half of the story. It takes about 30 days to get back to what the calf weighed the minute you pulled it off the cow. It is the health aspect that makes a weaned calf more desirable. I am going to use an analogy that I think everyone can understand, Your unweaned calf...

    Protein or Energy

No, the buyer wants a calf that has gone through the bawling stage, knows what a feed and water trough is for and is less likely to get sick.

How much hay can a cow eat?

If you can let those cows in that ryegrass for a couple of hours each day and then pull out it will stretch hay supplies. Even leaving them in a day every third day will help.

    wormer

Most minerals are formulated to be consumed at 3 to 4 ozs/day. The Safeguard feed is designed to be fed at pf 1 lb per 1000 lb of body weight.

    cattle body structure/condition

I suspect that cow is older than you think or has been on short grass long enough to wear her teeth down. She also might not be all Angus (maybe a Hogus - Angus x Holstein). Does she breed back on schedule? If she raises a good calf and rebreeds on schedule, it may just be the way she is.

2023's Animal versus Feed Breakdown, How am I doing? Suggestions

TexasRancher, I believe what you are describing with the grooves is a terrace. Left over from the days when cotton was king. There are 2 things that I would add to what you are doing - 1) subdivide and rotationally graze your pastures and 2) overseed some ryegrass in one of your divided up...

    Turkey litter for hay field

Poultry litter is a good source of some nutrients and increases organic matter. It generally provides N-P-K in a 2-2-1 ratio, so if you are trying to grow bermuda for hay you will need to add some additional potassium. The nitrogen is slow to release, so you may need to add 50 units of N to...
