    Doing Business As (DBA)

I don't want to operate as corp nor LLC...big difference from just applying for assumed name. I simply want to be able to use my farm name when conducting business. My main concern is keeping things in line with IRS requirements.

    Fertilizer Question

This question is regarding a 20 acre hay field of tall fescue and white clover. Location: Northern AL Applied fertilizer to specs in April. Baled 129 rolls of hay end of May. Is there a need to hit it again with fertilizer prior to second cut? Looking foward to reading your responses. Thanks

    Early Weaning

We have a set of calves ranging from 4-6 months of age. Currently they are still with their mothers. We are thinking about pulling those that are not quite six months old yet and putting them on pasture and free-choice minerals. The pasture is in excellent condition and can sustain them...

    @#$%! Beavers

Been there done that! We ended up having to hire an expert to get rid of the problem. My local extension agent introduced me to a guy who specializes in wildlife pests. He went in and tore down the damn and set traps. He has trapped over 20 beaver since he first started. There's been 3-4...

How often are you feeding supplement tubs

I have a small Blk Angus herd in northern AL; they are on good fescue/clover pasture. They receive free-choice mineral (Copperhead) and are maintaining very well. My question is do I need to supplement what they are getting with a tub. I've on occassion put out a couple of Stimulyx tubs and...

    Hay cost in Alabama

Im in northern AL and the hay is very plentiful; can't see why it would be expensive. In fact...I've seen adds for this year's hay going for as little as $18-20 per 5x5 roll. bks

    Seed

Probably seeing slow growth because Fescue should be planted Sept-Nov (ideally). Doubt if it will survive in the hot temps.

    How much hay

I know this question depends on a lot of variables but I thought I'd ask anyway. I have a pasture(approx 20 acres) that was seeded back in the fall with KY 31 and white clover. The pasture was fertilized to soil testing recommendations and we've had plenty of rain here in northern AL. Applied...

    Purchasing New Tractor

First time considering purchasing new tractor off the lot. I was wondering if tractor sales work similar to auto sales? Does the salesperson typically negoiate the sales price or is it a no-haggling type of deal? Looking forward to reading your responses. BKS

    Early Weaning

I have several Black Angus calves that I plan to sell this spring. I'm considering weaning within the next few weeks; the youngest calve will be 3 1/2 months old if I start weaning by end of month Dec. What are the pros and cons of such early weaning? I'm considering this action mainly to...

Early Weaning due to poor BCS

I'm not sure I have this posted in the right area but I will give it a shot anyway. We have a 3 y/o Black Angus cow that calved in mid Sept 08; since then we noticed that she's lost quite a bit of body conditioning...she's eating plenty of hay and seems healthy otherwise. She's raising a good...
