When are the belts tight enough? (Vermeer 504I)

Thanks for that. I have been trying for two years, but haven`t managed to secure a manual for it. I keep asking Vermeer on their website, but no joy. I dont believe the belts are too tight. They sometimes slip a bit until we get some hay to it. That was leading me to believe, maybe too...

When are the belts tight enough? (Vermeer 504I)

Two are new and the others are all older, but fully functional, I would think. On one hand, they seem too loose, but on the other hand, I am not sure that the hay wrapping on the feed roller is an indication of too loose or too tight? Frank

    HECKUVA DEAL

When are the belts tight enough? (Vermeer 504I)

Oh, it happened from time to time last year and isn`t happening that much more this year. A few times, but it can be a pain to have to cut the hay out..... If anything, the belts are all consistent in length this year. That wasn`t so much the case last year. .. Since we only redid 2 belts and...

When are the belts tight enough? (Vermeer 504I)

Thank you for the reply, Kenny. The belts on the 504I are supposed to be 224inches, but when I replaced two this year, I was suprised to learn that ours are only 214inches. We had to get baling and I had two belts around that were 424inchesand had them cut down and and relaced to the same...

Handling cattle: Who taught you ?

I once saw a heifer put her head down in the barn and give my brother (who liked to yell and holler) a nudge that sent him sliding 20feet in 18inches of slop. Oh, it was a sight to see.... As soon as I knew he wasn`t dead and after I stopped laughing, I decided to do the opposite of everything...

What is the last " stunt" one of your cows pulled?

I got a pretty cute (and good sized) Highland Bull that will break through the fence, sneak up on anyone with the back turned and nibble your shirt, pants, whatever... I think it actually has a sense of humour. You want a see kid jump, have a calf give them a nibble around the campfire at...

    unusual coyote carcass

Geeze, I had one year that I lost a few calves to coyotes. Knowing how mad I was, I am thinking it must have been another Limousin farmer... Frank

When are the belts tight enough? (Vermeer 504I)

Hello again. Hope everyone is having a good year. Not too bad on our farm, so far. I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb for how tight the belts on a round baler should be at rest? Mine seem loose. When starting a bale, sometimes hay gets wrapped around the rollers and an outside...

    Vermeer 504I Baler Slip Clutch

Well, we loosened the clutch a bit and baled 100 bales or so. I couldn't find anything further up. She plugged a couple of times and doesn't seem to have ripped the keyway out of the cross-shaft, so I am hoping we are good. We welded up the old keyway and had a fresh one cut in for this...

Vermmer 504I Belts - Round Baler Belts in General

Hello everyone. I looked up the belt size for a Vermeer 504I and it said they should be 424inches. I was surprised to learn that my 504I was running belts from 410-414inches in length and even those were loose. Why would those undersized belts be so loose? We only do 4 - 4.5foot bales, so...

    Vermeer 504I Baler Slip Clutch

Thanks, we'll try that. Glad to hear there isn't too much in there. Frank Vegetarians are cool. All I eat are vegetarians - except for the occasional mountain lion steak.... Ted Nugent

    Vermeer 504I Baler Slip Clutch

Oh, and I think the other problem was actually in front of the Baler. My brother drives it like a madman.... F./

    Vermeer 504I Baler Slip Clutch

Thanks Guys. I'll try loosening the bolts and shining it up first as I don't have a manual. Hard to know whether or not it is slipping at the right point though. I guess that cleaning it up is not out of the league of someone with limited experience, so I'll try to find one and get...

New Holland U-Joint - Buy Ford

Ya, but what suprised me is I read the part number out of the New Holland manual to the guy at CarQuest and he said they can't get New Holland Stuff. No way.... I said pretend the Part Number from the New Holland manual ia a Ford part number and it worked. It was only $20-$ 25 bucks saved...

    Baler Fires

We lost one last year overnight. Must have been a bearing that started a smoldering fire. Pretty disappointing thing to see in the morning. Baler was a right off and lost a tire, seat, lights and all the hoses. Could have been worse, but didn't seem like it could at the time. Frank

Vermeer 504i Baler - Electric Switch Box

Well, I finally tested my creation. The wiring worked exactly as cfpinz described. I mounted and outdoor receptical box with a stainless faceplate for the switch and and a fuse into the side. Welded a bracket on the back and I can take it from one tractor to the next.... With wire it...

Vermeer 504i Baler - Electric Switch Box

Thanks Ironpeddler. It was your posts that convinced me to try this old baler on our small scale operation. We've got a few months to tinker so I think I'll try making my own. Thanks for the advice on the rating, I was wondering about that. Frank

Vermeer 504i Baler - Electric Switch Box

Thanks for the instructions; very helpful. Since I'm mounting this in the cab, just buying the switch makes more sense. Much appreciated. This actually wasn't my first post. I just forgot my name and password and had to start over. Frank

Vermeer 504i Baler - Electric Switch Box

Hey all! After reading all the positive comments about the old Vermeer Balers, I bough an 504i that I intend to use this year. What I lack is the electric box that is used to tie the bales. Is there a place to buy one of these or can someone describe what it does. Is it just on and off or...
