    Weird skin lesion

Quigly, it's on the vulva skin (no hair to be lost). My vet said ticks cannot penetrate the thick hide of cattle! I had to tell him he was wrong. I've pulled them off faces, navels and the thin skin of the vulva as well as under the chin and dewlap. I haven't had ringworm here for at least 5...

    Weird skin lesion

Think you are right, we do have lyme bearing ticks in this area. Vet says 'no confirmed cases or evidence of lyme in cattle' but is going to give me long-acting tetracycline. Thanks you'all

    Weird skin lesion

Each circle has only one central puncture (assuming it's a puncture), a small black dot. The circle looks so round and flat it looks like a plastic disk. Never seen anything like this. Whatever it is, there is two of them side by side.

    Weird skin lesion

Healthy yearling heifer, just noticed two circular marks on vulva skin. They are side by side and about the size of a dime, completely round, not raised, smooth dark gray (same color as the skin) with a puncture in the center. They look nothing like ringworm. South-eastern Ontario.

    Dehorning hole

Thanks for your ideas. I got a hold of the vet and he said it was ok to flush it with peroxide and tie her so it would bubble out and drain. The pour on wormer is to prevent fly strike. She is now back inside where I can check it freuqnetly and spray.

    Dehorning hole

Yearling heifer vet dehorned 3 wekks ago. Kept in because of flies the let out as all looked good and dry but hole had not started to fill in. She was done at the time, and redone, with a pour-on systemic wormer and sprayed with blu spray. Today after a rain there is greyish goop coming out of...

Help! Bull Breeding Heifers w/ Same Father.

OK I got hold of a vet and got an answer. She was in heat and got bred (only 12 months old) I gave her the 5ml lutalyse on day 11 (told by vet to do it between days 10 and 12) The vet said I would not see a heat as a result of the Lut shot, and as it will have disrupted her normal cycle, to...

    Blindness in a sick?? heifer

Quick quick, give her thiamine shots..seen it in goats/sheep. It can affect one or a few only. She could go downhill rapidly and the thiamine is cheap and could save your heifer and in any case would not do her any harm. Delay and the damage may be irreversable.ck

    Breeding at first heat

Thanks for the timely replies. Just what I needed to know, as cow is coming in heat now, having calved fifteen days ago. I need to move her to an earlier calving, but didnt want to do it, if there was any particular risk in doing so. (ms) cowkeeper :)

    Judge stops CRP grazing program

I'm not in U.S. but I empathise as I buy my hay, and it keeps on raining. BUT, maybe you should be calling your congressman about something else. Isn't the insanity in using feed crops for fuel? Seems to me the crisis that would have conservation land used for hay, has been created by...
