Some New Girls...with Just a Touch of Ear

A few new girls that were shipped in from Texas Saturday afternoon. It was a pleasant 60 degrees out. Got about an inch of rain last night and tonight, a strong north wind, windchill in the 20s. Bit of a motley crew of 11. Brahmas got mainly for the novelty of having a few.

    Another Buc-ees Thread

A bit disappointing as we are starting to get as saturated as Texas with Whatsburger, not necessarily a bad thing.lol makes an interesting point on why I-40 may be a non starter for no Buc-ees in Oklahoma. https://z94.com/buc-ees-announced-new-stores-oklahoma/ And further into the article...

    Talk About Tiny...

I bought a heifer from OKC West (El Reno) on May 24th. She weighed 675 and they called her 6 mos bred. Got her for $1.20/lb. Gamble, yes, but I thought what the heck. She calved the other day, Aug 26th. First 2 pics is when i bought her.

Some Pics of Green Grass & Happy Cows

Been cooped up in bed last month due to some leg injuries. But still managed to get a ride to check out the cows. Received a couple more inches of rain this past weekend. Amazing how well the pasture has improved. And some pics of the cows and calves.

    ANOTHER comment about color

Alright, i had someone try to tell me that the sire of this calf was a hereford.😂 I just stopped especially after they said bulls had to be a "trained fence jumper" to get into the next pasture. Calf was born about a week ago and she calved during the timeframe where got rid of the hereford...

On the 11th hour of the 11th day...

...Of the 11th month, the guns finally fell silent on the western front 103 years ago today. 20 million dead. To look into the European psychy and the affects ww1 had on it, is really fascinating. it marked the beginning of the end for the European age. no one imagined the carnage yet to come...

    New Season Yellowstone

I am surprised this isn't mentioned yet unless I'm going blind now.lol. new season of Yellowstone premiered last night. And I have to say, I got into it. I started watching last season because my parents were into. It was hard to take the Dutton Ranch's side as it seemed to be a bunch of useless...

Sold Some Calves at OKC Stockyards

Roundup was fun: One heifer just refused to go into the corral and a steer literally went through a couple panels, tearing off the hinges in the process. One cow shot way up on the potential cull list, will probably regret not putting her on the trailer with the calves. We got the bare minimum...

    Europe's decreasing livestock

I always thought it was interesting that Europe still has as much of a livestock industry as they currently have. They still love their beef, pork, poultry etc. Well...looks like thats about to change. Plan to cut Netherlands livestock population by a third...

    New Bull

Unloaded him this evening. That little hereford was not doing his job, sold last week. Going to have June calves now but better than none at all. Other than him not being corriente😜🤣🤣, thoughts: the good, the bad, the ugly? Not sure if the video worked or not.

    Cow to the Processor

Took Little Ms. Prolapse to the processor today. As by her name, she had a vaginal prolapse back in January. Idiot bro in law wanted to keep her "cuz she looks really good."🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ but thats a whole other story. Took her straight off the pasture this morning. So grass-fed, brangus cow. All...

    Tuesday Cattle Sales

Went to a couple sales yesterday. Caught the last part of the weekly stocker sale at OKC West in El Reno. Calves selling pretty good. A batch of 61 steers weighing 576 brought $1.66. Most sold brought over a $1.50, calves in the 400-600# range. Other highlights: A small group of 400# bwf heifers...

    Cycling - Not Settling?

While pictures are probably not necessary for this post but they're always fun to look at.lol Here's the issue: ive noticed some cows cycling multiple times, others not. So i wonder if its the bull (my guess) or the cows. He's going to be rechecked on Monday. When he was checked at turnout Apr...

    New Addition + Bottle Baby

Picked up this pair on the 4th of July at a fair price, $900. I do like em with a touch of ear.😎😎 she likes her back scratches. Found this calf in time. Mother hid it for 5 days, it was very wobbly and weak. Pulled the calf and cow was only milking in one quarter. Shes going to town in a...

    Name that Breed

Hello all! Been a long time since I logged in, took a break, and started lurking again. My brother in law and I bought a few head of cows, a box of crayons really, but this cow has become my favorite, but I am not sure what her is in her woodpile. Her name is Claudia.lol Hopefully, posting the...

Just some "Food for Thought" I found interesting

I would just like to state this is from 2000 and on a world-wide basis. More duck meat is produced than buffalo meat. Never knew duck was so popular. And horse meat being number 13 on that list. first is pigs, then chickens, then cattle, being 88% of the entire meat produced world-wide. And I...
