    Calves sold today

Our current market report does say they took a hit and they are down a small amount. That would make sense. Definitely glad you got those prices.

    Unsure of calving

We've had a few that early over the years. Pending weather issues (causing pneumonia) we've just let them be and kept a close watch on them. I would see what your vet says. Keep us posted.

    Calves sold today

That's great. I've been hearing the market is taking a hit because of the dairy "flu" panic. Hoping to get our calves shipped next week for a special feeder sale. Worried if the market is going to drop we will not do as well as if we ship them tomorrow.

    American Aberdeen Angus

I want them both! How adorable! What a pair. Please update pics! Want to see that calf growing

    American Aberdeen Angus

In our situation with this one that wasn't the case. This pair was alone together up until a few days after birth to bond and the diary group was separated. Definitely something we try and watch out for however. This is what we have gone for over the years. Looks like with this group we are...

    American Aberdeen Angus

It is something the breed is trying to push. They've released a few videos on it. Makes for very easy calving on heifers. Still grow really well just a reduced height on the calves but still marketable because they are still 1/2 full size cow. So not as small as a pure Aberdeen but still a...

    American Aberdeen Angus

That's a nice pair. Glad you posted a picture. Nice to see what crosses look like. Thanks for the link. No problems with the cattle you've gotten from them?

    Burger Ques. # 2

I second what @mwj said. We have ours hung as well when we are doing all ground.

    Scratchers/Sweeper Brushes

Our cows ask Santa for one of those yearly. I saw them at a dairy show years ago. They are very cool. Prices seem to slowly be coming down on them. Knitting needle works. Maybe a meat fork? More prongs?

    Scratchers/Sweeper Brushes

That's what we were considering. Just wasn't sure if they would snap with the booty scratching. 😂 I've seen what they do to the RxR posts we used to attach push broom bottoms to. That's fantastic. That's sort of what we were thinking. Would like to be able to move them when needed. Thank you...

    Gettin' close

I've seen a few here and there in our beef herd over the years. Usually far older and from the back while the natural born calf is nursing. This was her calf on one side and our jersey on the other as if she was grafted. I was watching close for the graft knowing it was a good possibility...

    Scratchers/Sweeper Brushes

Does anyone have the old street sweeper brushes for their livestock? How do you have them mounted? Not sure if putting a post in the ground through the center would be best or building a stand of some sort. Haven't had any luck looking online for ideas.

    American Aberdeen Angus

Yes she was one of the bred cows. I suspect no actual vaccines etc. even thought the breeder made claims. Also had health issues that prevented general herd care for several years it turned out so how much was really done is a mystery. Just from the experience when I picked them up. She did have...

    American Aberdeen Angus

Just lost our first Aberdeen calf. Was fine last night. Up moving around this morning. Noticed he was down at 1pm when his mom was screaming at him. Got him in and out of the storm. Lungs clear. Mouth cold. Not a good sign. Noticed scours. No signs till today. Treated. As the day passed he...

    Gettin' close

I'll have to try psyllium husk. So far the Imodium isn't stopping the flow but it is slowing it enough to give the electrolytes a chance to work. Not being a graft calf and being with her mom I was not expecting robbing. She is finally on the mend thankfully. Less than 24 hours after separating...

    Gettin' close

I've been treating the jersey heifer calf for scours. Just can't get her stopped up.Just dragging on. Being careful not to let her over eat on mom. Today I started suspecting she may be stealing from the Aberdeen who just calved. They are in the same pasture during the day when our jersey cow is...

    Hogs on milk?

Thanks so much everyone! Piglets should be here next week so trying to prepare.

    Hogs on milk?

Very interesting. We've never had any pork that was fed milk so this is new. Just see a lot of folks with home dairy cows do it. We were already planning on raising pork but figured this would help with the feed bill. These will not be on milk only for sure. Thank you. Excellent. Will...

    Hogs on milk?

I am picking up a few piglets to help keep up with our milk cow and the whey etc from cheese making. Turning dairy into bacon is the plan. We had hogs years ago but it's been a while since we've raised any. We have tons of milk and whey that we want to feed them along with their feed. Any...
