    Feeding SS Baleage ?

We've been growing/ wrapping/ feeding it for 4 years now. If you can cut it at 3 feet or just over you will not have as much waste for sure. I've cut it from 3 feet to headed out. The taller it is the more waste you will have. We have feed it to cows with calves at their side. We have a small...

Wrapping SS or Millet Baleage ?

My stuff has 6 wraps on it. I have put up to 8 on it before. We wrap SS and wheat/ryegrass. I've seen some stalks look like they were going to break through a time or two on some very mature SS but they never did. I have ryegrass that I wrapped in spring of 2021 that I will start feeding in late...

    First Time Finishing

I don't know what was up with the black one. When I penned them up he seemed to be more bullish and wanted all the feed. but yet he didn't fill out as good as the other seemed to on the outside. They all could have stood to be fed longer but I didn't have that option with the processor. I got...

    First Time Finishing

I dropped off my first 3 steers at the processor yesterday morning. We've been back grounding calves for a few years but never have finished one. These were calves we raised out of some plain commercial Hereford and Angus cows. I get a lot more out of this page than I contribute. I read a lot of...

    Feedlot fencing

I checked on the concrete blocks available here. 24" tall x 24" wide x 6' long. weigh 3,800# have a "V" groove in the top and sides to lock into the next block. Cost $40 each. I'm going to keep them in mind for future projects.

    Drill question for overseeding

I've got a customer that plants around 60 acres of ryegrass/clover for hay every fall with a drill like that. Exactly what others have already said. The ground needs to be a little soft and it will work great.

    Feeding Baleage

I'm still doing what I had originally asked about with the 1 roll of wrapped and 1 roll dry. It seemed to work good last year and has been good this winter. The roll of wrapped will pretty much be gone in 24 hours. The dry roll will get them another 3 - 5 days depending on size and weather. I've...

    Feedlot fencing

I'm in the process of building a small receiving/ feeding pen for my background calves. I'll keep them in it for 3 or 4 weeks before I turn them out. I'm using continuous panels. When I bought these last year they were $110/panel. I could have gotten them for $100/ panel had I bought 20 or more...

Sorghum Sudangrass after frost as balage

I've got a patch of a BMR sorghum sudangrass that got a frost on it last night and will likely get another tonight. 31* last night. I'm wanting to cut it and make balage out of it. If I cut it Saturday with a conditioner could I bale and wrap it Monday and it be ok? It would still be 2 months...

    Lumber

That is true here. Talked to a friend about 2 weeks ago who owns a large mill locally. He said the price of logs has not moved in a year even with lumber going up like it has.

    Fertilizer prices??

I work for a large seed/chemical/fertilizer retailer. Fertilizer price quotes are only good for 4 days. Last Friday everything took a pretty good jump. Right now we have more contracts for fertilizer than we sold all last year if that tells you anything.
