    Deer Rifles

Browning 270 A bolt, medallion series. Tasco World Class Scope. My husbands favorite set up, only it's mine, all mine!!! He shoots either a Rem 30-06 or a 25-06, depends on his mood. Kids have a 270, 30-30, 243 and one of them shoots some Russian model. ;-)

Would like to see pictures of your good bull

This is my favorite Herdsire, Honky Tonk's Cody. He is 4 this month. He has been tenderness tested with Genestar, 2 stars(out of 2). His calves are nicely muscled and he tends to put some leg on them as well. He is very gentle, and loves to be scratched. He will come when called and loves...

    Some of my favorites

Thanks, We are! She was the deciding factor in buying an entire herd. There are more like her and some even nicer. She's a good momma and so far, only heifer calves from her. She likes to pose for the camara, as do her daughters! She's quite the gal.

    Pasture Rent

Wow, I guess we are pretty fortunate...We pay a flat $30/acre per year. Doesn't matter if it's crop ground or pasture. We do the upkeep..fencing, weeds, etc.

    Pinz Cattle

We raise registered Pinzgauers and can truly say we love them! They are the most docile animal of all the breeds we have had(angus, hereford, holstein). The meat has exceptionally good flavor and is always tender. We don't have the sale barn issue because we sell breeding stock and direct...

    Stud names

One of our herd sire's name is Cody (after the breeders son). One is Totino( the kid's like the pizza). My favorite (which my husband sold from under me) was Jack Daniel (no explanation needed). ;-)

    Some of my favorites

We've sold at both Stratford and Marion with mixed results. Cull cows bring a good price, last time I got more for my culls than my finished steer. We mostly sell private treaty, breeding stock. We have a few buyers that take all the feeder steers we can supply so usually don't have many to...

    Some of my favorites

This is one of our herd bulls, my favorite foundation cow and a couple of babes from this year.

    pinewood derby cars

The rules state all 4 wheels must be touching. Also, it's good to make sure there are no burrs or lips on the wheels, but rounded wheels will also get you disqualified. We have found that putting the weight exactly in the center...on the bottom works best for us. The boys like to use enamal...

    Pinz

We have a wide variety of markings on our Pinzgauers. Some have a lot of white, while others are very dark with less white. Look on our website, http://www.longshotcattle.com for some pictures. When we show, we try to pick animals that have "racing stripes"...the white on their bellies circles...

    cattle temperment

We raise Purebred and Fullblood Pinzgauers for breeding stock and have very few problems with them. Our herd size topped out at a little over 100 head and we have since cut back. We have a 4 strand perimeter fence and only a single electric smooth wire between grazing pastures. Other than the...

    PINZGAUER CATTLE

We are from NC Wisconsin. We have around 100 head of Pinzgauers, both Purebred and Fullblood. We don't have any problems at the sale barn, but to be honest, hardly any make it there! We have such a high demand for breeding stock and meat, that we are now "selling futures" for bred heifers...

    AI Help!

It's been a good 12 years since we have done any AI'ing(back when we had dairy cows). So we're a bit rusty! My question is, what water temperature should we be using for thawing out the straws? Thanks in advance for any help!

    Calves freezing to death

You all have been so helpful. When the "opportunity" to purchase this herd and triple our numbers came up, I told the hubby, just buy the cattle, we'll figure out the details later. I'm eating those words, but I'm also getting a quick education about what works and what doesn't....Like the...

    Hoop Buildings

We have one going up in spring 30 x 100. The wholesale cost is $4,000.00. We convinced a dealer to put one up on our place at cost if we let him put a sign on it and use it to show people. I personally think they are ugly, but with the cost of building materials, I'm willing to give it a try. ...

    Calves freezing to death

We are in Central WI and it's not so much as the temperature 20-30's as it is the rain and mud. The (surface) ground temp is just at freezing so it is muddy with water pockets that cannot drain away. The cows always seem to pick the dirtiest spot!!! When those calves are covered in slop the...
