Springfield area. Going to the OHOA Beefmaster sale around then too. Any fall born or all spring?

    Preparing for calving - banding

Agreed. In my experience, if you know when it's born, let her clean it off and let it eat once, then when it beds down and she's not as worked up, usually it's a good window to ease up and band them then.

    Farming is tough

Sunday was always a day of rest growing up - only emergencies like the cows getting out were attended to. I've not kept that myself, nor my wife or kids as they will work their outside jobs on Sunday if required because that's the world we live in. But, we don't work on the farm or at home on...

IMO - Control. He'd been able to live under the illusion of controlling everything around him most of his life, wasn't going die any way he didn't control either.

    SAV Scalehouse

Are we talking cattle or politics? I get where you're coming from. I don't get into that side of the cattle business much but I do appreciate the improvement in genetics that comes from it.

    SAV Scalehouse

Guess that depends on whether you want to wean off at 500-700 lbs or 1000 lbs.

    SAV Scalehouse

Those numbers are incredible. I dream of a herd of 75lb BW calves weaning off at close to 1k just on milk and grass. That's not reality but I'd like to see what calves from him do without being put on feed.

    Hay

Missouri has been great for hay and grass for the past few years, especially spring cuttings - they've just been occurring a week or two later than usual. The last couple of summers have been dry from the end of July through the beginning of October making fall cutting numbers less, but the...

I assume there are a lot of people out there with legitimate chemical imbalances or health conditions that may never get properly diagnosed.

Battery for hot wire - electric fence

I was referring to the solar fence chargers like below - no external heavy batteries involved. I think gcreekrch may have been referring to the same thing? https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/american-farmworks-5-mile-solar-fence-energizer-esp5mn-afw

Battery for hot wire - electric fence

Would one of the solar chargers be an option?

    Prices are good

I'm contemplating weaning on Tuesday and holding over the winter for the first time in eons this year. I've got more grass than I know what to do with. Moving to fall calving so I won't have but a couple of calves over the next month or so and shouldn't have anything except a straggler next...

    Covid

Headache, nausea, loose stool, fever, chills, aches, low energy levels, loss of smell and taste. Didn't have any breathing problems or congestion. Vaccine gave similar symptoms for a day or two afterwards each time.

    cell phone pocket

I carry mine in my front jeans pocket. If I'm working where I've got to pick things up and use my hips as a brace, I just take it out and set it down somewhere safe until I'm done. Dad wants to carry his in his shirt pocket all the time but after years of losing and breaking phones, he's...
