That would make things interesting if it happened going down the highway.

    Trailer Floor

They are. I added them to my trailer i bought last winter, and am not sure I would do it again. The selling point for me was that lumber quality has gotten terrible and they are not not as likely to rot or break like a regular board. They lifetime lugged floors do have gaps between the boards...

    Hay Analysis

My math says you are hitting your 2.5 lb/day target for protein with a little extra. 30 pounds of hay @ 7.5% protein = 2.25 lbs of protein. 4 pounds of feed @ 14% protein = .56 lbs of protein 2.25 + .56 = 2.81 pounds of protein per day

    cattle body structure/condition

In my opinion she is just hungry. Assuming that hay bale weighs 1200lbs, in a perfect world she is only getting 20lbs of hay and .8lbs of cubes per day. Figure in some cows being more aggressive and others more timid, I would expect the aggressive cattle to maintain and the timid to loose body...

    Free martin

If you have bull and heifer twins, the heifer will usually be sterile. What about the bull? Will he be sterile also, or safe to raise as a bull?

    Working dog question

Yes this is what I am talking about. The calf catcher looks nice, but I just din’t see it working in my terrain. A horse sounds good, but I think I’ll take my chances with the mad mommas.

    Working dog question

I u derstand what you are saying and see where it could be an issue, but im in a wide open pasture and the dog would be on the sxs with me until I had the calf caught.

    Working dog question

I work calves in the pasture by myself and want a dog to watch my back, for the few seconds I have to take my eyes off of momma. I know nothing about stock dogs being used for anything other than herding or moving stock; so my question is this something dogs are trained for? If so what kind of...

Mourning cow - How long does it last?

In my opinion the best farmers are the ones who don’t confuse an animals instinct with human emotion.

    Diesel engine troubleshooting

I have a JD 7210 that developed a lope at idle, which I believed was the engine sucking air into the fuel system. I changed both fuel filterS, and replaced the packing (or whatever you call the rubber seals on the fuel line) from the inlet side of the first fuel filter To the inlet of the lift...

    Price for bred heifers?

This is like asking if a car is worth $10,000. We will need a lot more information to answer this. Are we talking registered? Preg checked or exposed? What are they bred to? How far along are they? How are they built? Two thousand a head could be fair for high quality stock, and could be...

    Math Question

NO. You need to balance your equation or something. One gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds (not 8.354, but that is insignificant) Using your method the answer is: 3’x3’x1” or 36”x36”x1” = 1296 cubic inches There are 1728 inches in a cubic foot, and a cubic foot of water is 7.48 gallons...

JD M Series and E Series

John Deere now uses E, M, and R to classify their tractors, similar to how truck manufacturers do. It is like comparing an f150 custom to a king ranch. The E series is the economy version, M is mid level, and R is the premium. A lot of tbe differences being listed in this thread are just...

    Zee tags

I use z tags and have had zero issue with fading, but for the record they make them with two different types of print. One is something like screen printed and is only good for a year or two per the manufacturer. The other is laser printed and is supposed to remain legible for life. I use the...

    Ear Tag Brands

I have used y-tex and z-tags and never had a problem loosing either. I prefer the z-tags, because I always have to fully seat the button thing on the y-tex by hand to keep them from falling off, and that is jist one more thing to do while the cow is in the squeeze chute. I like how you pull the...
