Where to sell finished cattle ?

Caviness Pack Hereford, TX. They will take everything you have.

    Quiet Wean flaps

I’ve used the orange and the green gladiator looking flaps. I much preferred the green flaps. They were easier to put in and take out. Fewer bloody noses as well. They look a lot worse than they actually are. The cows and calves just continue as they were all summer. I threw the wing nut away...

    Cutout weight percentages

KPH-kidney, pelic, and heart fat. That could sure contribute but I wouldn’t expect it to cause the difference you are seeing. I knew a guy that took a 280 lb pig in to get slaughtered and got back 260 lbs of meat. He thought he was the man until he ate some of it. Had to feed it to the dogs...

    How to get coat shiny???

If I’m trying to get a horse ready to go to a big sale I’ll start supplementing him with Calf-Manna. It will make them slick and really shine. It would work for cattle as well.

More marbeling on grass vs dry hay?

Marbling is determined by energy. If the hay is higher in caloric density then it will make the calf fatter. If it’s high quality grass then it will provide more TDN (total digestible nutrients) Age contributes as a mature animal doesn’t use energy for skeletal growth.

    Bud Box

All of these suggestions are correct. The second gate solves the problem of the individual that won’t load. Also found that if the gate isn’t exactly 90 degrees they load a little better. The absolute best is the Daniels double alley. Big feedyards work more than 1K hd/day with that system...

    Buying lightweight heifers

Depends on quality and price. Quality or value is determined by genetics, vaccination history, and body condition. Good deals can be priced above or below market averages. Train wrecks can be priced above or below market averages. All producers don’t make the same profit because they don’t all...

    Rotational Grazing Fence

I needed to do a better job explaining what I’m doing. 640 acres have permanent fence. Water is located in the middle of the pasture. I’ve been told I need to fence off 5-15 acres to graze. I don’t know how to give access to water and still use the permanent fence. I’ll admit I don’t know what...

    Rotational Grazing Fence

Going to try strip grazing. I don’t want to have to set a post for ever corner. Going to move the cattle at least ever other day. Anyone know the right materials to use? Some of the stuff I’ve seen looks expensive and easy to break. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

    What is acceptable bull behavior?

We use a bullwhip when we pick up bulls in the fall. Usually give it a crack and the bulls head to the gate. Occasionally, a bull needs a little more persuasion but not very often. Some practice will be required and I’d suggest earmuffs for a beginner. Bulls are like kids teach them some manners...

Putting bulls with your cows around the fixed time AI?

This is right. Several timed AI protocols call for heat detection 72-48 hours prior to breeding. If you don’t have the time this works just as well.

    Cowboys on call

Had a guy show me a trick once. Put a Tums in your mouth when you are getting started. As you bury your head in her flank spit in the bottle. Head back to line and pour out your “milk”. Might want to make sure you didn’t draw the steer.

    Cowboys on call

The term “Cowboy” is used too loosely. This is what a cowboy is. http://www.amarillo.com/news/local-news ... -last-ride

    Selling Local

The feedyard cuts out all the middle men. Every one makes a commission up to the feedyard.

Dang, you guys get lots of snow. Our cows would freeze to death.

    Best lice treatment?

We use Co-Ral mixed with diesel on a rub. Much easier than gathering cows if pens aren’t close.

    Craigslist prize bulls

I clicked on it only to see the weaner ring.......I was so disappointed.

    Mixing feed help

Technically you are correct. When you convert a number to percent the decimal has to be moved. Haven’t had to show my work since 5th grade. I need to keep the audience in mind when I post. Thought it might be helpful to show someone HOW to do it instead of asking.

    Quotes from Stephen Hawking

I don’t agree with what he would say. I don’t like what he stood for. It just makes me sad for him.
