    Best Fish

In some places in Asia, I have read that "fishermen" pour DDT into the water and scoop up the dying fish. I do think I'll stick to Alabama and Mississippi raised catfish for my store bought fish.

    cowboy hats Q

Years ago Progressive Farmer magazine tested several types of hats/caps that farmers and ranchers wear for best sun protection. The winner was a ball cap with a cloth attached that covered the ears and neck. Looked kinda like a French Foreign Legion kepi like you see in the movies. I actually...

    cowboy hats Q

Back to headgear, I used to wear a hat because I thought it was the cattleman thing to do, but I have gotten much more practical as I have gotten older and can't justify the cost of a fine felt hat. That money can be better spent on the farm as far as I'm concerned. Plus, I can't wear mine in...

    Best Fish

Was on Alabama's beautiful Gulf coast recently and sampled the seafood there. Still say that bluegill and shellcracker is the best eating fish to ever lay in a platter.

Any college football fans out there?

Hey Alan, I know exactly what "War Eagle " means. While there are about three stories as to the origin of the Auburn battle cry, the one most accepted goes as follows; In the 1890's as Auburn was playing Georgia, the Tigers were losing. In the crowd on the Auburn side was a Confederate veteran...

Any college football fans out there?

Uhh, no Novaman I wouldn't have posted that Auburn was the National Champions if Oregon had won. That wouldn't make sense. I'm not sure I follow your line of thought here, but if Oregon had won the game, one could assume that Auburn was out coached and out played. My remarks are not to defend...

    They caught him!!

I think if a criminal admits to a crime eithr incarcerate him or execute him immediately. If he admits to it, why bother with the cost of a trial and why should the tax payer have to feed, house, and clothe him?

    Huckleberry Finn/Tom Sawyer

One of our English teachers assigned The Adventures of Tom Sawyer to be read. She gave an alternative book choice if someone found Twain's work offensive. Black student chose Tom Sawyer and went home and complained to her mother about offensive language. Mother came to the school demanding to...

Any college football fans out there?

Say what you will, and make any excuses you want to, Auburn is the National Champions of College football. Remarks about AU not being able to beat previous national champs is bogus. You play in the present, in the here and now. In my state of Alabama, we hear all the whining from the Tuscaloosa...

    Bloodahoula

Picked up a little 6 week old pup on Halloween day over in Mississippi. Momma was a registered Bloodhound, pop was a Catahoula. Accidental mating. Learned since that some folks actually cross these breeds to create a hog/coon/big game dog. Anybody have experience with this cross? She's...

    What's eating my hibiscus?

Bought two beautiful hibiscus that were blooming wonderfully. Something has eaten the stems about half way up the plant. Looks like it's been pruned. What gives? BTW, they're on the front porch with other plants and the other plants have no damage at all.

Need Advise on What to Plant

Another thing to consider is the type of forage already present, if any. If you aready have forage on the place, you might want to stick with it.
